Re: 2014 legion baseball
Heard from a pretty reliable source that there are some major changes coming this season. Word is Ebensburg has dropped and the league had talked about going to 2 divisions of 5 teams, but someone came up with idea of 2 divisions... one with 4 teams (Bedford, Claysburg, Somerset and Patton) and a 6 team division ( St. Michael, Lilly, Richland, Portage, Cernics and Stoystown) 4 team division plays each other 5 times and crosses over once and 6 team divisions play 3 times each and crosses over. Not sure how the playoffs are gonna work out but should make for a lot more exciting games. Really think losing Ebensburg is another huge blow to this league.
Re: 2014 legion baseball
The next question becomes where will those kids who still want to play, be allowed to go? Who picks them up? Will this make a so-so team a powerhouse? The problem with Ebensburg this past decade has come down to leadership, or lack of it. Lots of kids just wouldn't play for the past leadership.

St. Michael improves to 3-1 with a 3-1 win over Richland at a wet rainy Highland field.

Re: 2014 legion baseball
I see Claysburg was able to get a game in last evening minus the central players. There lineup featured a few experienced vets along with a lot of new younger ball players, yet they pounded out 15 hits in a 13-4 victory over previously unbeaten somerset. That should be one very deep line up when they get to full strength. Also, saw that they were able to pick up McMonagle from Williamsburg for this season. He had an unbelievable high school season in his own right.
Re: 2014 legion baseball
The rich get even richer. And St. Michael was courteous enough to postpone their game earlier this week because Claysburg "had so many Central players still in the playoffs". Boo hoo for them.

WOW manfred, sounds like you have an axe to grind there. BTW there is a mutual respect among the coaches, but as far as courtesy, Claysburg isnt required to play until those guys are done. Its not like anyone could have prevented the cancellation of the game.
Re: 2014 legion baseball
Where you been, Pal? I've been preaching for several years now, about the unfairness in terms of geography for some of these teams. Longtime franchises like Ebensburg and Nanty-Glo are no more, and as I said, the rich get richer. If you can't field enough players from your own school district, then too bad for you. How can a Portage or St. Michael possibly compete when their restricted to their own district, and Bedford and Somerset draw from the whole county, and Claysburg draws from 5 or 6 school districts? I guess you didn't see that C'burg recently defeated SOMERSET 13-4 without the 9 Central players on their roster. Talk about an All-star team, and fair-and-balanced.

I think that claysburg pulls from ck, spring cove, Williamsburg, and TM. Bedford pulls from Bedford, NBC, Everett, and CR.

Re: 2014 legion baseball
So they switched this year from Hollidaysburg to an all star kid from Williamsburg. Big concession.

Claysburg did start at least 2 freshman 15 year olds at Somerset ?
