The Pirates are back to .500!

Post by Coach »

Today the Pirates send Vance Worley to the mound in his Pittsburgh debut. The Marlins counter with Henderson Alvarez. On Tuesday the Bucs face Cueto. The hitting has been terrific as of late. Can the Bucs pitchers pick it up? I hope this hot streak continues and they can get above .500.

The "Septic Tank" blows another one. Keep chewin that gum and making horrible pitching changes Hurdle. Start having faith in your starters and you won't have to worry about this kind of sh*t. The bullpen isn't lights out no more you have to adjust and ride your starting pitching if they're dominating.

I can't be too critical of Hurdle today. He had Watson in for the 8th inning and he's been lights out all year. I feel way more comfortable with him there over Vance Worley coming out for the 8th.

What would you give up for a guy like Jimmy Rollins?

The criticism for Hurdle from this game doesn't come from the handling of the pitching.

One has to question the decision in the third inning not to send Cutch from first and then Davis hits into a DP. And pitching to Mcghee in the 10th with first base open. Yeah you have a lefty on deck but the numbers (which the Pirates seem to rely on a large part of the time) surely showed the chance to get out of the inning was better with Jones (versus possibly Wilson) and the bases loaded rather than McGhee who is hitting like .400 with runners in scoring position.
The easiest thing to do in sports is hustle.

Honestly not much... Hearts in Philly and he's old, can still hit but not much pop in the bat anymore and range is down to average. He's more of a name and veteran presence, and with his heart in Philly , not sure how good of a presence he'd be.... I'd take young and hungry most days
I'd take Adams or papplebon before anyone else on their roster
