Crimson, I know you just listed the undefeated and one loss teams but I think it's pretty safe that Duke won't make the playoff. Only saying that because they're the only team on that list with absolutely no chance (Nebraska very very slim chance).

There are some hypothetical situations that I'm sure the selection committee are praying don't play out.

Example 1: SEC doesn't have a team with less than 2 losses, there are 4 (or more) other major 5 conference teams without a loss or 1 loss. Something similar to :
-Florida State 13-0
-TCU 11-1
-Ohio State/Nebraska 12-1
-Oregon/Arizona State 12-1
-Alabama/Georgia/Auburn/Miss State all with 2 losses

Do you guys think they would leave the SEC out?

Example 2: A bunch of 2 loss teams stack up and Marshall remains unbeaten: something similar to:

-Florida State 13-0
-Alabama 12-1
-Oregon 12-1
-All other major 5 conference teams 2+ losses
-Marshall 13-0

Is there a path at all that puts Marshall in the playoff?

There is no way they can leave an almighty SEC team out. If the best one ends up with 3 loses they'll find a way to get them in. Auburn has to be done. You can't lose to an unranked team. I personally don't think Marshal will ever even crack the top 15.

I think Baylor has a chance to get in. Their only loss was to West Virginia. They beat TCU and just smoked Oklahoma and they still have KSU.

If Baylor or TCU finishes 11-1, they'll get in and Baylor would probably get in ahead of TCU with the head to head win.

An SEC West team will be there one way or another.

If ASU and Oregon both win out, the Pac 12 championship will be a play-in game.

Florida State will be in if they remain Undefeated.

Blueandwhitefan, you are probably right Duke has no chance but let's throw their scenario out there just for the fun of it.

Nebraska finishes 11-1 and beats Ohio State to go 12-1.

Duke finishes 11-1 but they beat FSU to go 12-1.

Who is more deserving at that point? I would say beating FSU carries more weight than beating Ohio State.

But either way, both teams have slim to none as it stands. I just include them since they are one-loss teams.

Here is the two loss list.

1. Ole Miss 8-2
2. Auburn 7-2
3. Notre Dame 7-2
4. Georgia 7-2
5. Michigan State 7-2
6. Missouri 7-2
7. UCLA 8-2
8. Kansas State 7-2
9. Wisconsin 7-2
10. Clemson 7-2
11. Arizona 7-2
12. Georgia Tech 8-2
13. Minnesota 7-2
14. ECU 6-2
15. Boise State 7-2
