West Pac Week 5 Predictions

Post by Chiefwapum »

West Pac Week # 5 Predictions (YTD-17-3)
As was mentioned on a post last week the games I picked were close but my predictions went A bit south. Anyway we will regroup and see if we can get back on track. This week seems to be a bit clearer.

Shade (1-3) @ Portage (3-1)

Shade has been struggling and I suspect it is a combination of several factors, one of which would have to be injuries. As their coach has indicated at the beginning of the year they could not afford any injuries as they simply don’t have depth. I am not sold that this is the entire reasoning for their early demise but, it is definitely factoring into the equation. They need to turn it around soon if they have visions of making the playoffs. This week they will run into an angry Mustang squad fresh off of a spanking from the Mountain Men. They will no doubt take out their frustrations on the visiting panthers and keep their eye on the final game of season. Portage is a strong team and their QB has got a tremendous arm and reads the field well. Portage will roll big.

Prediction Portage 65-6

Blacklick Valley (2-2) @ Conemaugh Twp. (3-1)

Blacklick is riding their feature back and comes to town with a even record and I suspect this game will be controlled via the run game by both teams. CT continues to impress as they rolled into Meyersdale and came out with a hard fought win. As is the case week in and week out CT relies almost exclusively on feeding the ball to their workhorse. The amount of carries he has last year and this year is a bit frightening to me. I am not sure I have seen that many carries by anyone at any level before. He seems to be shouldering it well and CT’s success is following with it. Look for much the same this week as CT will roll up another win.

Prediction CT 35-14

Windber (1-3) @ Berlin (4-0)

Clearly Berlin is head and shoulders above the rest in this league. Berlin seemed to wear Portage down on the front line with their constant barrage of interior lineman alternating throughout the game. It must be a nice option to have the quality and depth that they have. Windber is struggling this year and the struggles will continue this week. Berlin will not be challenged again until they face Portage in Week 10 West Pac Championship.

Prediction Berlin 56-6

North Star (1-3) @ Ferndale (0-4)

I thought early on that Ferndale would have a shot in this one but, have since changed my mind. This most likely will be the last game North Star wins this year so they should enjoy it. North Star has its moments although they are few and far between. Ferndale is really struggling and looks to finish yet another year without a win.

Prediction NS 35-14

Conemaugh Valley (2-2) @ Meyersdale (3-1)

Valley is playing decent ball right now and they will come into hostile Raider territory following Meyersdale recent nail biting loss to CT. I figure this game could go either way however I think Meyersdale plays a bit more aggressive and gets in done at home. I was a bit surprised with Meyersdale size that they got pushed around by a smaller CT team and couldn’t stop the Indian workhorse. They had 52 chances and failed. I am hesitant to pick Meyersdale in this one as I feel CV can use the same game plan and pull off the very mild upset. I will go with Meyersdale one more time

Prediction Meyersdale 21-20

Week 4 Takeaways
• I got thumped in the weekly predictions
• Berlin/Portage are the only teams that play defense. Berlin is in a class of their own
• Why opposing coaches can’t stop the only weapon CT and CV use every play
• Ferndale should consolidate with Westmont or someone
• How many yards would Berlin Stud running back have if he ran the ball ½ as much as the other rushing leaders in the conference?

I think you'll return to 5-0 this week but if you don't it will again be Blacklick Valley pulling the upset

We get that Berlin is very good. One of the best in the state. But can you please get off your knees for them?!? Holy cow! It's almost comical.

Peyton you always seem to have a smart *ss remark concerning something on someone's post. I don't think I have spoken any more about
one team or the other. I am guessing you have a hard time with reading comprehension. If you don't like the post don't read them. I really am not interested in a back if forth with you so on this site concerning your lame duck comments

Did you make it to the game last Friday Hank12QB ??? What was your personal outtakes from it? Going in I was susceptible of the Portage defense. We let the RB from Blacklick have some huge plays against us so I was just waiting to see what Mr. Fochtman was going to do. Berlin is definitely the better team and deserved the victory. It was only a 14 - 6 game going into the 4th Quarter so when I see some of these people say that the Mountaineers HANDLED us, I'm like did anyone attend the game or read a recap of what actually went on ??? The Mustangs really couldn't get the ground game on track, I felt that we ran Dividock a little TOO much instead of #18 or #5. In a big game, on the road, as the underdog you CANNOT drive inside the 25 and come away with zero points TWICE. Including fumbling at the 4 yard line. Also the dropped INT which MIGHT have been a pick six was huge. Oh well Portage came away pretty healthy still and will live to fight another day....we'll see you in Week 10 and see if anything has changed I guess. Good Luck this week and the rest of the season.

I was at the Berlin-Portage game, and came away impressed with Portage. The final score didn't represent how close it was. Portage had their chances to make some plays and didn't capitalize. Portage has a nice passing game and there defense did a good job on Fochtman (it took him 33 carries to get 173 yards). That being said I think Berlin could have scored more points if they passed more and ran Harding more and just mixed it up more. Defenses know what's coming when you run the same play to Fochtman 3 or 4 times in a row. Also, Berlin's defense is for real. I don't think too many single A teams could hold Portage to one score. I think the week 10 game will be closer on the scoreboard and am looking forward to another good game. It's sad that these 2 teams are so far ahead of everyone else in the conference. I don't see anyone else in the Westpac giving either of them a game.

Yes I was there. One of the few Berlin people sitting on the Portage side. This happens when you show up late. It was a tight game until the end. Dividock has a heck of an arm. Throws hard and accurate. I'm anxious for week 10
