ICC Week 9

ICC WEEK 9

Last Week:  5-1  Season:  35-6

Last week’s big shocker was NBC not only beating, but putting a hammering on Bellwood-Antis.  Congratulations to NBC for turning the bus around quickly and with an exclamation point.  Bellwood still wins the ICC Gold Division and Mo Valley clinched the Silver.  Also have to give those Tussey Titans credit for coming within a whisker of getting their first win.  For having an 0-fer season those kids are playing hard.

Everett (2-6) at Claysburg (4-4) – An interesting matchup in Claysburg that could go a number of different ways.  Everett is the team with the talent that is competitive week in and week out but can’t get the W’s and Claysburg seems to be coasting to the finish line after a terrific start to the season.  Can Coach Foor find the key to motivating these Bulldogs in their quest for a winning season this week.  This writer says YES.  Another close but no cigar for the Warriors.  Claysburg 18 Everett 14.

Bellwood (5-3) at Glendale (1-7) – There could be a better prescription for Bellwood to get better than “Glendale” this week.  To answer Coach Walstrom’s Altoona Mirror comment from Saturday morning – “Right now I don’t know if I have any answers to what’s going on” – Coach, you got one more win than anyone thought you would and you can’t make spaghetti without the noodles!  Onto this game.  Bellwood gets their ship righted and Glendale plays hard but just doesn’t have the material.  Bellwood 46 Glendale 0.

Tussey Mt. (0-8) at Mount Union (5-3)–  Tussey’s been playing hard but in this instance they come up against the team, that I feel is the best in the Gold Division right now.  Duante Martin has 807 yards rushing and is averaging over 8 yards per carry and has been the league’s super soph this year.  TM keeps it within range for a half but just too many Trojan horses!  Mt. Union 42 Tussey 14.

Williamsburg (4-4) at Northern Bedford (5-3) – Williamsburg has been improving and is now battling to get to .500.  NBC is off a huge win over Bellwood and only a hangover can stop the Panthers winning this one.  I don’t see that happening.  Williamsburg is capable of giving NBC a few anxious moments though.  NB 34 Williamsburg 14.

West Branch (4-4) at Juniata Valley (4-4) -  This is an intriguing matchup and may be the toughest call of the week.  Both teams have a lot of incentive with winning seasons hanging in the balance.  I’ll go with the home team.  JV has also been just a bit more consistent than WB from my perspective.  JV 26 WB 22.

GAME OF THE WEEK

Southern Huntingdon (6-2) at Mo Valley (8-0) -  Mo Valley continues to roll with Eric Sherkel now at over 1,150 yards and averaging a stunning 11.7 yards per carry this season.  He is approaching and should go over the 2,000 total offensive yard mark this Friday.  The big question here is can SH control the ball enough to limit Mo Valley’s plays and possessions?  Long drives that finish in the End Zone, maybe 5 of them, is the one way SH could pull this off.  SH will have their moments, but not enough of them.  MV is too explosive.  Mo Valley 35 SH 21.
