Many in the sabermetric stats world believe that good defense at 1st base is not that important and that it is the easiest position to learn to play.  Pedro may have single handedly shot down that theory.
The easiest thing to do in sports is hustle.

His 6 Home Runs and 34 RBIs will make everyone forget about Pedro.

John Jaso is a good signing. Nothing splashy, but he gets on base - and that's a pretty valuable asset. Alvarez had solid isolated power, but in this day and age getting on base is considered more important than RBI's.  Jaso's OBP is better than Alvarez's.

His stats look light because he was injured the first 3 months of the season and didn't really start playing until July 7.
