State football standings in TD today
Re: State football standings in TD today
I think alot of it has to do with former local sportswriters that move to the Harrisburg Area and write for The Harrisburg Patriot. They go off past knowledge of covering certain teams like Portage having a winning program. For Portage to be ranked who would know anything about Portage unless you've watched and covered them in the past. Then again maybe Gousey has some connections?CoffinCorner wrote:Can anyone explain how Portage at 6-2 is ranked #8 and CT who plays in the same conference and is 7-1 is honorable mention? Then you have Bishop Canevin who only has lost to the #1 and #3 team in A as only honorable mention, meanwhile , Portage has losses to lesser teams and is ranked higher.
Props to all local teams but these rankings are not worth even reading

State Rankings are always subjective. They aren't always easy to compile. To my knowledge, Penn Live and PAFootballNews are the two main sites that put them out weekly. Someone mentioned that they go off reputation, and that's true. There was a long stretch Tyrone was preseason #9 no matter what they had coming back or what they did the previous season. They just knew Tyrone was probably going to be good. And yeah, that wasn't a bad assumption typically.
At the top of the rankings, maybe top 5, they're usually fairly accurate. It's easier to do research on Bishop Guilfoyle and Clairton for example because they have known pieces on the roster and made deep runs in recent history. Obviously everyone knows Clairton has Lamont Wade and Noah Hamlin, and it's pretty well know BG had a ton of starters returning as well. It's not easy to sneak up on people in high school football. You can kind of count on the defending district champions, OR if they want to do a tiny bit of research the teams that came in as runners up.

Sorry, didn't mean to come off like an a$$, I just think the rankings in general are absurd. With 500+ schools playing football you'll have these head scratchers at times. I guess the answer to why Portage is higher than Twp is there really is no good answer.CCDevil2012 wrote:I don't think anyone on here really cares that much. It's just the point thanks if you're going to take the time to put out such rankings, they should probably make some sense. That's all. In the end it doesn't matter. But this is a sports forum where you talk about sport related topics, that's what we're doing.
