hoopfan and footballfan, you guys can bash me all you want and where I am from, but you can't hide the truth that what Juniata Valley is doing is not ethical. Yes it is legal because as you stated the Bedford County trio has set up legal residence within the JVSD. But joining forces to play with your AAU teammates instead of your local neighbors in your own school district is not ethical. These moves were strictly based on athletic purposes and NOT educational or even the parents getting better jobs or promotions. So keep bashing me and there will be people out here, like Marauder, who will back up what I say.
So, everything mentioned in these threads defending families rights to raise their kids the way they choose is not ethical. Dadw/2sons, you're on the edge, you need to take a deep breath and chill for a while

Re: PIAA Girls Basketball State Semifinals
The debate is interesting.... Funny if they lose in a way because they wouldn't have won their league, district, or state. So it will be like their AAU experience a lot of winning but nothing really that counts on a championship level. It is what it is.... Would've been nice to see girls who came up through school together like our state champions at Wburg in the 90s but sadly the parents think this is what's best. It's really sad when the parents held their straight A student back a year in 5th grade so she would be with certain girls. The girl had her mom as her teacher at the time when they held her back. This is far worse of a problem or just makes the whole situation seem messed up. It's the parents but it's only getting worse but whatever I suppose.d6footballfan wrote:So, everything mentioned in these threads defending families rights to raise their kids the way they choose is not ethical. Re: PIAA Girls Basketball State Semifinals
So it comes down to affordability then? If your parents can pay for it, you'll be in the "winner's circle". They'll give you the Burger King crown and you'll get to brag forever.
if your parents can't pay for private education, you're jumbled in with the regular Joes and good luck. You can try really hard, but in the end that All-Star team is going to beat you because they can afford to play with those of their choosing.
As a parent, yes it's a better choice and opportunity, but the two should not compete in the playoffs. Our local girls have faired well this year, but on the boys side. A-AAA has 2 public schools. It's a joke.

[sup]Truly this is the PIAA's fault. What they allow Catholic/Charter schools to do forces public schools to do these things to compete. JV is in the spotlight because they are having sucess this year. If you think this kind of thing doesn't happen in a vast majority of other public schools you are living under a rock. [/sup]
Re: PIAA Girls Basketball State Semifinals
So the character of the kids and families that he bashes is fair game but his is not?
Re: PIAA Girls Basketball State Semifinals
He said it's wrong how it was done. You're calling out him personally and his kids on what is probably word of mouth hearsay. Be the bigger personHoopfan wrote:So the character of the kids and families that he bashes is fair game but his is not?

While I agree this all lies at PIAA’s feet, I must not only live under a rock but a boulder. This does NOT happen at most other public schools. I do not like what has happened at JV and I am really disappointed with Williamsburg and the level they stooped to. However, this does not occur at most public schools. Most public school coaches go to work with what they have. PIAA isn’t going to do anything about it so it comes back on the ADs and the local district committees. How far are they all going to let this go? Someone has to say no and push the issue. Seriously, how hard is it to understand that these actions are for athletic intent. The extreme that some of these families will go to amazes me and now we have a coach or coaches looking at film of players abroad and actively recruiting them to come as an exchange student. One player in basketball, especially at the smaller school level, can make a huge difference. Just look at Williamsburg. Not only would they not have made the playoffs without this player they would have been lucky to win 5 or 6 games. What does that say to the rest of your players? Who are they going to bring in next year because when they go back to reality it isn’t going to be pretty. Maybe their ex-jr high coach will bring in two or three exchange PLAYERS next year to have them live with them. It’s out of control and only can be challenged at the local levels because nothing is going to come from Mechanicsburg.
Back to the original post that started the thread. Good luck to all teams and maybe we should have the Altoona Mirror assign the officials for tonight’s McCort – Bellwood game. I’ve seen the last few plays on video from two different angles and still think the officials got it right. Obviously, Bellwood’s coach is going to complain about what happened. He’s an old pro at that but for the Mirror’s reporter to jump on board questioning the calls is a little overboard. Altoona Mirror usually stays away from such things for good reason but the reporter’s love affair with Bellwood has been ongoing for some time.

Unfortunately I can't disagree with you on the affordability thing. I mean, in reality, anyone can send their kid to private school, there is no rule that says you can't. Crying over the fact that not everyone can afford it is no different than being mad at the guy who pulls up beside you in a Mercedes Benz at the red light while your still driven the old Bronco. Where I will disagree with you is the idea that these kids should get no credit for the hard work and time they put in to earn a championship regardless if your public or private. Maybe they are "All-Star" teams, but each individual doesn't become that unless they spend hours upon hours in the gym working day after day 365 days a year. They earn those championships just as much as anyone else. You can disagree with how the PIAA handles things, but don't discredit these kids accomplishments as well.12HankQB wrote:So it comes down to affordability then? Re: PIAA Girls Basketball State Semifinals
Yes, they still have to have talent and work hard as individuals, but they're put together with other higher caliber players. It's easier to do well when you have more talent playing with you. Public schools can also put in 365 days of lifting and summer dedication, but they're stuck with the talent they have.CMM52 wrote:Unfortunately I can't disagree with you on the affordability thing. It's nothing against either side individually. Every household situation is different. If you're a parent that can afford this option, more power to you, but PIAA should not have these two in playoffs together. It's not apples to apples at all. If the Mercedes Benz keeps beating the Plymouth Sundance constantly, don't you think it would be best for the Benz to race the BMW's, Lexus, and Lambo while the Sundace races the Ford Escort, GEO Metro, and Chevy Cavalier? There would be a lot better races. More enjoyable to watch.

Re: PIAA Girls Basketball State Semifinals
12HankQB I don't think it can be argued that when it comes to private/public, at least at the lower levels in hoops, there isn't an unbalance. I also think making the argument that the product would be better if they were separated isn't a strong one. I've watched a lot of games that were close on the scoreboard, but on the floor the game was terrible. We get to see the Benz v. the BMW now in the state championship or at some point in the PIAA tourney. I mean, not sure who wants to watch the Sundance and Escort go at it lol. The car references are fantastic by the way.
