Re: Way Too Early Version of WPIAL Rankings
Great work, as always. I'm going to get my D6 and D5 ones out shortly.
Interesting 6A rankings, I've been hearing good things about Penn Hills and I've heard virtually nothing about Hempfield. Also, what else does Pine-Richland have besides Jurkovec? Is Kenny White eligible after transferring to PR for athletic purposes?
As for 5A, Gateway has seemingly been down for a few years, nice to see them back towards the top.
Don't know much about 4A, as a Pitt fan I'm excited Pitt has the Danielson kid from TJ committed. He's a beast.
Will AAA still have the stupid playoff format and only take 8 teams to accommodate the Heinz Field thing? It still blows my mind Beaver was ranked top 5 in the state and didn't even make the playoffs with a 7-2 record last year.
Steel Valley was a lot more complete of a team than I realized. I always assumed it was the Paris Ford show, but they were loaded. They might go 16-0 again.
Any chance Clairton can be beat in class A? I've heard Jeannette has some good athletes. Still a bit young though. Does Clairton have another top college recruit coming up through their ranks?

Re: Way Too Early Version of WPIAL Rankings
6A: Pine-Richland not only returns an all-section WR (Raymond Falcon) and QB Phil Jurkovec, but Kenny White was ruled eligible by the PIAA. They are loaded and have a pretty big offensive line. It will be hard for teams to stop them. Central Catholic and North Allegheny don't have much back from last year but they are such big schools that they can pretty much reload. For some reason I like Hempfield. They have their all-section QB Justin Sliwoski and TE Braden Brose back. Bethel Park has good lines and RB John Doleno back. Penn Hills always scares me because of their line play and defense and this year is no different.Crimson's Ghost wrote:Great work, as always. I'm going to get my D6 and D5 ones out shortly.

5A: I think the most wide-open class and I have West Allegheny there because of the fact they are the returning champions with a few pieces coming back. Gateway should be pretty good offensively with Brady Walker and Courtney Jackson leading them. McKeesport and Woodland Hills are always in the mix. My sleeper pick is Fox Chapel. They bring back RB Micah Morris and have a pretty good experience offensive line.
4A: Should be pretty top-heavy with two or three teams ahead of the pack. Thomas Jefferson is always very good defensively and they will need that to pull them through the first few weeks while they figure out new offensive weapons. South Fayette should be very good offensively with QB Drew Saxton and TE Noah Plack back. Mars would be the other team I could see sneaking in with RB Garrett Reinke.
3A: Same. Stupid. Format. The same thing will happen this year but probably not with Beaver. Aliquippa and Central Valley are loaded with all-section players returning from last season. Beaver Falls and Keystone Oaks are also always near the top. Valley & Seton-LaSalle have two nice running backs returning in Deonte Ross and Lionel Deanes respectively.
2A: Steel Valley dominated last year. It was insane. I still see them being able to repeat but not as dominant. They have quite a bit of questions marks offensively, but the defense should be great again. The competition in 2A isn't great. The teams 2nd-6th could all be in each other's place.
1A: I don't think Clairton gets tested in their conference during the regular season. They have too many key pieces back from a young roster last year. They don't have the big studs they've had the past few years but Tre'sean Howard is probably the one to watch. Rochester, Northgate, and Bishop Canevin all have some key offensive players back from last year. Jeannette is definitely young this year and they have a lot of question marks offensively.

Re: Way Too Early Version of WPIAL Rankings
you really think Beaver Falls will compete? They lost everyone, including coach Matsook.
Not sure about West A either, they lost a lot. Mckeesport seems loaded.
Clairton will be Clairton for sure.
PR is absolutely loaded. PCC lost their entire offensive line and many keys on defense. NA looks very strong.
I agree with your 2A assessment.
TJ is definitely on a collision course with Cathedral Prep again. love that first week match with PCC
