Are you on board yet, Voncap? Thy have met your 2 requirements by getting into third place and getting to 500. They are really cooking right now. They have to stay afloat now. Win at least one in Colorado and win five of 6 against the Giants and Padres before coming home again. I am turning into a Cardinal fan for the weekend. A sweep would be nice by the Cards.

The Cubs are still the bigger issue, which we all knew would be the case.
They need to continue to take 2/3 type series and stay within an earshot.

Dadw/s: After today's win, I am starting to feel your enthusiasm.
Looking at the numbers there are still a few things to be concerned about.
1. On July 14 the Bucs were 1.5 games behind the Cubs in the standings. After a five game winning streak, the Bucs are two games behind in the Cubs in the standings. Yikes!
2. Let's say it is going to take 86 wins to win the division. It may be a game or two less than that, but I would be surprised to see it much lower than that number. To get to 86 wins, the Bucs will have to play .575 ball the rest of the way. Not out of the question, but definitely a challenge.
A few things working in the Bucco's favor:
1. They are actually beating the teams in the Central division. They have not had a winning record against teams in the central since 2013. If that trend continues, their chances of winning the division improve dramatically.
2. Many of the players that this team was/is expecting to carry the load are starting to play at the level many expected from those players. A trend that must absolutely continue for a divisional championship run.

Yeah, I know the Cubs are the real ones to be chasing. That is why I am turning into the biggest Cardinal fan this side of the Mississippi for this weekend!! Go Caerds and Bucs for this weekend. It would also be nice if the front office could get us a starting pitcher to slot in behing Cole, Nova and Jamo. That way either Kuhl or Williams could go and strengthen the bullpen with a strong arm.
