I read in the paper that Fran Ganter is resigned as coach and will become an Assoc. Atheletic Director at PSU. Galen Hall (former Gator coach from Williamsburg PA!) will be the new offensive coordinator and Jay Paterno will continue to be the QB coach and call the plays on offensive (at least half).

This indicates to me that Ganter wasn't going to be considered as JoePa's successor. It looks more and more like JayPa is being groomed to take over.

Penn State football fans owe a tremendouos debt of gratitude to Jerry Sandusky and Fran Ganter for over 60 years of loyalty to PS and Joe Paterno. JoePa is a great coach one of the best ever but he arguably had the best two assisstants ever with him for practically his whole tenure.
These three coaches are Penn State football not just Joe Paterno. I think that Sandusky and Ganter haven't been given enough credit for their contributionsn and loyalty. Both over the years have turned down big time coaching jobs to stay at Penn State. Their humility and loyality are rare things now a days!

I think it is fair to say that Ganter and Sandusky helped to make Paterno what he was.

Will the younger Paterno be able to build the staff that the elder did. That will make the difference.

Darn right old school! Sandusky made PSU. The decline started when he left and since, they have lost their reputation as "linebacker u". Jerry Sandusky was key to PSU's success. I think JoePa would agree (although he would say that they can be successful without him).

State is in huge trouble if JAPA takes over at some point....and it sure looks as if he will. I agree, the program has fallen since Sandusky left, and it will be interesting to see how it goes without Ganter.

im not sure anybody on here can say for sure that jay paterno is a bad coach. he was the head of recruiting this year and got a fine class to come in. im not really in favor of him becoming the coach after joe, but i dont think it will be the downfall of state if he does. i think it would best if psu brought in an established coach from another school that has some ties to psu to follow joe because whoever does take over is gonna have to be able to produce some big time wins early or the largest alumni association in the country will be all over him. imo

all of this is still years away.....heres to 8 wins this yr

My father know Fran G. personally through selling cars to him and don't anybody count Fran out he will still be there to help psu, but just not on the side lineds. You have to respect his dicion to change things up b/c he know it was the best for the team. God bless PSU
