What are they thinking??

Post by CTtrackster »

My question. Why did the steelers cut St. Pierre??? Now it leaves them with only 2 quarterbacks. Maddox and Big Ben. What happens if one gets hurt, looks like they will be SOL then. I dont see the method behind this madness leaving only 2 qbs on the roster. Then they go and sign a WR, where I do believe they are fairly deep in that category, with burress, ward, randle el, lee mays, doering.

Worst case scenerio, Maddox and Roethlisberger both get hurt and they end up signing Neil 'throw-it-to-the-Cowboys' O'Donnell. Best case scenerio, Maddox goes down with some sort of nagging injury and Roethlisberger gets to start for 2-3 of the year. Sure alot of Steel fans that don't want to hear it, but a .500 season and a year under the belt of the future of the Steelers is not bad at all, the Steelers are one year away right now, all that is needed, and has been needed for the last 3 years, is improvement in the secondary. (Also with a season going sour Colclough would get more time in the game and bye bye Chad Scott) With Polamalu in his second year, Colclough getting a year under his belt, Chris Hope playing for his 3rd year along with Logan 8th, the Secondary is one or two offseason moves and/or aqusitions away from actually becoming another staple in the Steelers rapidly improving D.

All of this is possible, I don't want it to happen like that, if Maddox is in there and they are winning games, I'm not going to be calling for his head if he makes a few bad throws or throws a couple of picks. Hopefully the rest of SteelerNation feels the same. With Burress being in a contract year, he will play alot harder and hopefully Maddox or Roethlisberger will find a way to get him the ball. Ward is always there and always will be here, and -El yeah, Randell El will also make spectacular plays. I, for one, can not wait for the opener this weekend against the Medicare strapped Raiders. Lets hope the Steelers shock all and contend, and notice I said contend for the AFC Championship this year. If the Steelers resign Burress next year, look out NFL...

and no, Niel O'Donnell will never be picked up by the Steelers again...

The Steelers took a calculated risk that St. Pierre would clear waivers and then be added to the practice squad---it worked out as he is now on the ps.

A better question might be----Why did the Steelers keep ten corner backs and why is Willie Williams one of them???

Don't forget Antwaan Randle played QB for Indiana...I think the Steelers are looking at him as the 3rd string QB

I was listening to Foxs Sports radio today...and they said on there that rumor has it that the Steelers might be thinking of bringing in Tim Couch for some back up duties....My thought on that is....Please dont do that and just keep 2 Qbs and if they need to just play Randle El at Qb if they have too..Did anyone else here of this rumor??

Thats news to me. But you are right, just keep the 2 qbs and hope for the best. I dont see why they wont be able to contend for at least the north or central, what ever div. there in. I really dont see them beating the colts or the pats, but i think playoffs arent that far off.

That rumor so far as I know, isn't true. Last I heard of Tim Couch, he's going to be trying out for the Indianapolis Colts after they play New England tomorrow night. But if that was true, Tim Couch would be a solid back up for Tommy Maddox, as he is an underrated QB, especially in Cleveland. The one thing there though, is that Big Ben wouldn't get a chance to take any snaps as Tommy or Tim would always be in, and getting him a few snaps in a game, or perhaps even a game or two would be good for him to get under his shirt. Not a big game, but perhaps one against somebody like San Francisco or Arizona.

I don't think he is underrated, he was released by the Pack. He had a great preseason too. In Cowers press conference about Oakland he said that they have been working on packages for Randel El to run the Q this season. Week 8 the Patriots will fall...
