early in justin king's high school career, jk had a choice between a perenial wpial powerhouse or gateway. the season before king went to gateway, their football team had like 3 wins. this year they have like 11. based on this and his recent signing w/ psu, justin king seems to enjoy the opportunity to join a struggling program and be the difference maker.

other factors which i think may have led to him going to psu over other schools:

tom bradley

joe paterno

his step-father who played for psu

current players like paul p., michael robinson, and alan zemaitis

psu's recent record of putting defensive backs in the pros

these are some of the pros. im sure there were some others for him as well.

If that offense had any competence, Penn State would be about 8-2 or 9-1 right now. The defense is young and fantastic. The offensive line is atrocious, and Mills is hurt. HOPEFULLY, Robinson will be used as a d-back like he was supposed to be all this current season, and Morelli will be the quarterback. You can say all you want about Paterno, and Penn State, and everything else, but the fact remains that PSU has more young, great talent than any other team in the country. I don't know how they get these recruits, but they must be doing something right.

Everybody, regardless of what team you cheer for (Pitt / PSU), should be very excited right now. Pitt is playing very well, has a couple VERY good WR's injured that will be back, and is a pretty young team. There are recruits in PA that are 5 star prospects like years past. Football right now in PA has a very strong opportunity to pick up.

If Penn State did have an offense that could put even 20 points on the scoreboard consistently, they would be a lot better as a team, and might even be in contention for a Big Ten title. But right now, they have the cruddiest offense ever. I wonder if JoePa is the problem. Perhaps he is more of a figurehead coach and motivator who lets his coordinators and underlings run the games. If that's the case, then perhaps they need a new offensive coach, or need to use some different schemes, it's hard to tell.

Nonetheless, Justin King had his reasons for going there, perhaps, as goodbuddy said, because PSU has a history of getting defensive backs into the pros. If you want to get into professional football as a defensive player right now, being on a team with one of the top Ds in the NCAA is a good way to go, regardless of wins and losses or how the offense is doing. There are probably some NFL scouts at every Penn State game trying to figure out which linebacker or defensive back would be the best fit for their team.

Just watched Fox Sportsnet on TV and they did a nice article on King. He stated that he attended his first PSU summer camp the summer before he entered 10th grade. That's when PSU made him their first offer. Is it legal to offer a scholarship that soon?

I keep hearing about how PSU is young. Well, every team in the Big 10 is young. If you watched the OSU-Michigan game, the majority of both teams starters are young, in the case of OSU, mostly sophomores and freshmen.

Also, PSU did get some good recruits, but a few name players do not make a class. OSU and Michigan will also get a few name players. OSU already has commitments from Boone and O'Neal, two of the top 25 in the nation. What will make a team good is a recruiting class with depth.

yes wildcat. how could anybody forget about the buckeyes and how good they recruit each year. i at the present time reports have it that ginn jr is driving a lincoln navigator aroung campus and does mantainence in the weight roon during the week for $ 89 per hour. his time lifting counts as being on the clock. im sure that boone and oneal have already had their fair share of $100 handshakes at the games and this summer they will be working construction on the campus for $89 per hour for being blueprint holders. i wold image that the bucks will get a couple more top notch recruits that will add some depth to this class. its just a hunch!!!

Are you naive enough to believe that stuff does not happen at PSU? I personally do not care how many $100 handshakes Ginn gets as long as he keeps bringing back punt returns. I guess PSU fans have to console themselves with the inaccurate belief that their program is cleaner than the other Big 10 schools. The others must be cheating to win.

I don't care either. They're there to play football, and everybody knows it. Just keep it secret.
