"Scrambling for Dollars"
Think teams aren't scrambling for some of the enormous amount of money made in college football? Last season the MAC got a lot of press.
Here's the MAC coaching tenures in 2004.
Marshall - Bob Pruitt - 9th season - *leaving conference*
Northern Illinois - Joe Novak - 9th season
Western Michigan - Gary Darnell - 8th season - *FIRED*
Miami Ohio - Terry Hoeppner - 6th season
Ohio - Brian Knorr - 4th season - *FIRED*
Buffalo - Jim Hofher - 4th season
Toledo - Tom Amstutz - 4th season
Ball State - Brady Hoke - 2nd season
Bowling Green - Gregg Brandon - 2nd season
Central Florida - George O'Leary - 1st season - *leaving conference*
Akron - JD Brookhart - 1st season
Kent State - Doug Martin - 1st season
Central Michigan - Brian Kelly - 1st season
Eastern Michigan - Jeff Genyk - 1st season
Hmmmmmmm... two coaches out of 12 have been fired, 6 of 12 have coaches with one previous year of tenure as head coach at the school. So, next year, the MAC will 8 of 12 teams with 3 seasons or less. 6 of those 8 will have 2 seasons or less. Now, who disagrees with me that the level of competition from top to bottom isn't getting more competitive?
