Thomas Jefferson 21, Erie Strong Vincent 20

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (AP) — Brad Dawson threw two touchdown passes to lead Thomas Jefferson to a 21-20 victory over Erie Strong Vincent in the PIAA Class AAA semifinals on Friday at Slippery Rock College.

The victory earns Thomas Jefferson (13-2) its first trip to the state championship game. The Jaguars will face defending champion Manheim Central (13-1) in the title game Dec. 10 at Hersheypark Stadium.

Dawson completed 9 of 16 passes for 184 yards. He connected with Adam Plantz on an 18-yard touchdown pass with 3:50 left in the first quarter.

Erie Strong Vincent (11-2) tied the score at 7-7 with a 70-yard scoring strike from Duane Hemphill to Andre Henderson with 2:25 left in the first quarter.

Thomas Jefferson scored the only points of the second quarter on a 5-yard run by Dan Giegerich with 1:22 left in the half.

Erie Strong Vincent scored the next two touchdowns on runs of 59 and 3 yards by Mario Henry. The first came with 6:55 left in the third quarter, and the second with 7:55 left in the fourth quarter, but Harris Merzihic failed on one of the two extra point attempts.

Thomas Jefferson scored the winning touchdown on a 22-yard pass from Dawson to Evan Browne with 7:24 left in the game, and Browne connected on the deciding extra point. The Jaguars held Erie Strong Vincent on its next two possessions to close out the victory.

Henry rushed for 113 yards on 11 carries for Erie Strong Vincent, while Nate Nix led Thomas Jefferson with 110 yards on 28 carries.
