NOTES: So this is it -- the final rankings of the year.

Oddly enough, little has changed since early December, when we first started our weekly rendezvous in this space.

Delone jumped Trinity -- which lost to Cumberland Valley -- to reclaim its No. #1 spot in Class (AA). This means two things:

1. All of the teams that began the year at No. #1 finished it there.

2. We can admit when we are wrong. Moving Trinity above Delone was done too hastily. Trinity is a fine team that has improved during the course of the year. But it lacks Delone's intrinsic ability to win games no matter what situation it is in.

By all accounts, Westmont Hilltop was a better team than Delone. It had a 13-point lead midway through the third quarter.

Delone pulled out the win.

That's the mark of a No. #1 team.

And it is that quality -- which sometimes comes packaged as heart or focus or luck -- that all champions have.

The question remains: Will it carry Delone through to the state title? Or will another team have the magic?

That's why we jump in the car, travel to far-flung gyms, pack ourselves in amongst the other fans and wait.

We need to see which team truly has it.

It is worth waiting for.
