Coaching Changes - Burrell and Rochester Boys Basketball .....
3/23/2005 -

Two veteran W.P.I.A.L. basketball coaches are in the news, one is returning to the sidelines while the other is saying goodbye.

Burrell has hired former Highlands and Valley boys basketball coach Tom Myers as the new coach of the Buccaneers boys hoop team.

Myers takes over for Ron McNabb, who stepped down after 14 season as the Bucs head coach.

Starting in 1980, Myers coached the Highlands Golden Rams for 9 years before taking over at Valley in 1989. He coached the Vikings for 12 seasons, which included a WPIAL championship in 1993.

Myers also coached one season of college basketballl at Penn State-New Kensington.

Meanwhile, for the first time since Jimmy Carter was president, the search is on for a new basketball coach at Rochester High School.

Bob Rauch has retired as boy basketball coach after 25 years on the job.

This past season, the Rams finished 6-8 in the tough Class (AA) Section 6, 8-10 overall.

One of the many highlights came early on in his tenure at Rochester when Rauch guided the Rams to the 1983 W.P.I.A.L Class (A) Championship.
