And Defense, if it comes down to 60-0 wins, if the 3rd and 4th stringers are in, and still scoring then what do you ask your kids to do as a coach?
"Hey, its 1st down, we are winning 49-0 in the 3rd quarter, just take a knee."

yeah i agree, you cant just stop playing if you are killing another team. if your giving your younger kids a try when you are killing someone, and they are doing good, then its not really running up the score

Portage wins 69-0 some games.....but in all seriousness you know their starters arent playing. And obviously you cant tell your 2nd teamers to not go out and play....they go to practice all week too and they want to play. Lets face it Portage's 2nd team can probably beat most of the teams in the WestPac.
But this topic really isnt about who can beat Ferndale by more points.....Its about who can win this game.
What are some thought and analysis on this particular game. This is the biggest game of the season to date in the 5-6 region. I wish i could make it out there.....but id imagine channel 14 will cover the game on a delay.

Regarding running it up: Look, when you are up 5 scores or more at the half...there is no reason for your starters to play more than 1 series in the second half. With that being said, you don't stop coaching just because your second or third stringers are in. These times are for the development of your younger players. I'm not saying you throw deep...but you don't take a knee either.
Remember too, this goes both ways. If I'm blowing a team out in the 4th quarter and I have my third stringers in, and the opposing team is trying to air it out that is going to irritate me as a coach. Some coaches do that, which is wrong, and they deserve to have a few more put in on them. I think the same is when a team has in a team beyond second string (troopers). If this is occurring sportsmanship would suggest the opposing team should pull their starters as well. Would you want your trooper Tailback getting lit up by the opposing teams stud middle linebacker when you’re up 40+ with a minute to go in the 4th quarter? This is wrong as well.
I think the most important thing here is what Crimson said...there is always next year. Most coaches realize that and do not run it up.
As far as the game goes...Portage is the obvious choice. However a lot can be said for a team who has played 4 quarters this season (North Star) and has some seasoned players (Both Squads). The OG thinks Portage just has too many weapons. Stangs continue to roll!

OG thank you for saying that because it couldn't be more true

Mustangfan4life, It is great that you love your program, and you should! But the fact that you guys are homegrown may be your problem. The Mustang faithful REALLY don't know what it is like outside the WestPac. The competition in the LHAC is brutal. Everyweek is a battle, sometimes you just hope your team comes out of a Friday night game healthy. I have not seen Portage play, and I am sure that they are a very good team, but don't say the Mustangs are going to take it to McCort when you don't know what McCort (or BG & BC for that matter)has. I think both the LHAC fans and the WestPac fans should cool down and hope for a LHAC-Portage matchup in the championship game. I hope to make that game if it happens.
