Re: BLACKLICK VALLEY BOYS BASKETBALL

CT came out with plenty of intensity and get up and go against Shade...it was the last 10 minutes that killed them. And, please...dont try to tell me that Blacklick came anywhere CLOSE to matching CTs effort against Shade....they were blown out by more than CT was in that same 10 minute span.DrJerkyllMrHide wrote:ctindian00- You've proved it with your post. When Shade played Blacklick, BV WAS the best competition Shade saw to that point. They showed leadership, intensity and their coach didn't need to coax them to come out and want to play. They did it themselves.
Although I don't disagree with you about senior players needing to have the same fire and intensity, i have to disagree with you on blaming the coach being the easy way out. The seniors on that team have played together since they were in elementary school and have good chemistry. But in High School ball you dont have the same freedom to create like you do in the NBA...you do what you are told. That said...those players dont call the offense, they dont call the defense, they run Coach Lesko's game as he calls it.DrJerkyllMrHide wrote:ctindian00- The holiday season of good will and cheer must be over for ya!
Anyway, I gotta respond to your most recent post..........Is there no expectation at Conemaugh Township that your Seniors should also play a part in motivating their basketball team? By the time they're seniors, that should be an expectation from the younger players on the team, the fans and the coaches that YOUR SENIORS will provide leadership not only for this years team, but to build upon for years to come. Expect your players to "show up" on their own...they are bigee boys now. Blaming the coach for that is the easy way out.
I don't know your coach Lesko at all, but I'm thinking that the ghost of Coach Cable needs to move off that bench and out of that gym. Cut the newbie some slack.
From what I hear from the players I know, practices are great. Good motivation and fast paced basketball. Good leadership from the seniors, etc. The problem, from what I understand, is that in the locker room before the game Coach Lesko shows no passion, no motivational speaking, no stand-up leadership. On the bench, he doesnt have that fire. He yells under his breath and looks more insane than passionate. I can tell you from playing basketball for all 6 years of Jr-High/Varsity that one way you should NOT show senior leadership to the younger players is by yelling at them during a game. It comes off as bad chemistry and in-fighting. The practices under Lesko are the same as the were under Cable: passionate, intense, and with great senior leadership. But when Cable coached, seniors didnt do what you say that should during the game because that is the Coach's job. Cable would yell at the refs, he would yell at his players and he wasnt afraid to verbally assault them and light a fire under their @$$ in order to get them motivated. Lesko doesnt do that, he stands there arms folded and has an air of indifference about him. THAT is the problem, THAT is why this team takes 3 quarters to get playing the way they should.
A small example of that: Tonight at Ferndale, Lesko said almost nothing the entire first three quarters except for calling the offense and defense. At about halfway through the 3rd quarter (maybe 3-4 minutes left) Lesko yelled at his players on the sideline becuase they were playing like crap and the score was 27-26.....against FERNDALE for cripes sakes. What happened after he lit a fire under them right then and there.....the final score was 60-42 or something like that. Point is...when he did his dang job and coached like he should have done all game...his players reacted with a 33-16 final 10 performance. THAT is what COACHES are SUPPOSED to do!
