Texas picked up their 12th commitment today in Carrington Byndom. He is a defensive back out of Lufkin, Texas. He is only 165 pounds right now, but I hear he is a lock as a 4-star recruit. The best part is that Oklahoma had offered him, too. Rack another one up for Texas over Oklahoma.

Former PSU D-backs coach Brian Norwood is the DC at Baylor, how about leaving Baylor a couple kids!!!!

There's a couple of those kids that are from the Dallas area. That kid from Naaman Forest went to the same HS as one of my best friends. The other kids from Garland had the pleasure of being on one of the best dressed HS teams I've seen down here. I can't find a good pic, but they are all black with yellow trim and black helmets w/ a yellow Georgia "G" on the side.

I have seen those uniforms. They are sweet. Briles has been doing a pretty good job at Baylor and he'll do most of his work later in the Recruiting period. After this weekend, Texas should be up to at least 17-18 commits. They'll leave a few scholarships for players like Lache Seastrunk and Jackson Jeffcoat, but that will be about it.

Texas is up to 17 commits after today. It's amazing how they have gotten this many recruits already. They are still missing a few of the big names, though. They still have some work to do.

Interesting to see as far as recruiting $$$, PSU spends near the bottom of the Big Ten, while being third in overall revenue.

WVU certainly spares no expense!!!

Compared to the rest of the Big Ten schools, does PSU recruit as much NATIONALLY, or do they recruit mainly locally (Pa, NJ, MD, VA)? From a density standpoint, there are MORE potential recruits closer to PSU than closer to the other Big Ten schools. Therefore Iowa, Minnesota, etc have to bring kids in from greater distances, involving plane fares, etc etc. Most PSU recruits can drive to State College and PSU does not have to fly kids in as often. Among other things that holds down recruiting expenses. Also JoePa is sitting at home on his butt and not traveling the country to visit recruits like other BT coaches. That saves a bundle too. So it's how you look at things.

Interesting you mentioned that. Penn State used to recruit nationally, and used to get some kids from California and Florida. About 10 years ago, Paterno made the decision to stay more locally oriented. I don't have an answer as to why. But strangely enough, for the 2010 class, they have already started pursuing kids down here (Texas), a few kids in California (I guess specifically San Diego), and Georgia. That's great news for PSU fans, because the interest is being reciprocated. Now, I'm not saying they will land RBs from CA in this class, but throwing your hat in the ring is something us fans have been angry about since the decision.

A lot has to do with new Safeties coach Kermit Buggs. When Norwood took the Baylor job (DC), they brought in this Buggs guy. PSU's coaches have region territories that are their responsibilities. Jay covers Ohio (except Cincy, b/c a line coach has ties there), Bradley is western PA (obviously, he's from McCort), Johnson covers Maryland and DC somewhat, Vanderlinen covers most of Eastern PA and NJ, and McQueary covers NY and the Allentown area as well as "where he is needed". Buggs has no real territory. What they are doing with him is sending him to a lot of different places. The thing that is great for us is that Buggs is well received. People within the program and people who have spoken to recruits and current players all say that Buggs is going to be a very, very good recruiter. All that may sound strange, right? At first, I thought position coaches recruit their own players, but that's surprisingly not really the case with the majority of major college teams.

There's a big emphasis on PA this year, because for the first time in a little while, PA seems to have a lot of I-A talent. So Bradley is already doing a great job in western PA for PSU this year.
