Other states have separation of public and private schools so to me it is not a "legal" question just one of wills. I guess it will take a massive revolt of some public schools leaving the PIAA and forming their own sanctioning body for athletics.

I have always had what I feel would be the solution to all of this garbage: Make all non-publics play AAAA and we will see how good they are.

The Serras, Kennedys, McCorts, Guilfoyles, Carrolls, and Sewickleys of the world would field basketball and football teams that would get exposed and destroyed in the long term if they had to play a AAAA schedule night in and night out. It would be NBB (NBB=Nothing but beatings) for McCort, Guilfoyle, and Carroll in District 6 if they had to play AAAAs...

LET ME REFRESH YOUR MEMORIES FANS OF MCCORT, CARROLL, AND GUILFOYLE...REMEMBER the Mid-ALleghenies Conference of the late 1980s????? Yeah, the one where you were smoked in basketball virtually EVERY SINGLE GAME??? All 3 of those Catholic Schools played Altoona, State College, Hollidaysburg, Central Mountain, Jtown, etc and absolutely got manhandled every night, which is why they lasted like 1-2 seasons in the league. I recall Carroll losing to Altoona by like 50...They withdrew and left the Mid-Alleghenies "high and dry" when they got tired of getting hammered, and went back to their own little class A and AA world. The true essence of "taking their ball and going home." True, occasionally Guilfoyle or McCort have had teams that could compete with the AAAAs there, but not very often. Again, NBBs would ensue.

Because they couldn't win in AAAA, many of the non-pubs would lose enrollment and some would close. What would be left would be a handful of larger enrollment non-publics and they would probably have excellent teams, but theyd be playing in AAAA where they belong.

C'mon Catholics and privates...You think you're so good???? Then PLAY AAAA BASKETBALL AND FOOTBALL. I really want to see McCort and Carroll line it up against the likes of Penn Hills, North Allegheny, and Altoona instead of Portage, Bellwood, Northern Bedford, and Shade. They may have to discontinue football at BM, BC, abd BG because they'd have nobody left to play. It would be a bloodbath. Remember the Alamo.

You know any time factual information regarding privates and the number of championships they win get brought up the private boosters love to say things about every one being cry babies ,sore losers and nitwits and such. When presented with hard cold facts name calling ensues.Look at the numbers, man up to the truth ,just because you went to one of these institutions doesn't change the glaring facts. If you don't believe look at A and AA boys and girls basketball right now. What is left? It truly is as simple as that. This year is probably about average for every year.

According to today's Trib-Dem, Bishop Carroll just received a $500,000 gift from Edison Mission to ensure future Huskies are financially able to attend the high school.

Doing the math, that is roughly 100,000 future Huskie athletes/students who will be taken care of.
