Gallaher should be in there
You might be a redneck if you think the last words to the Star Spangled Banner are "Play Ball
Re: Top 5 basketball players in the area
BOYS -- in no particular order
1. Miller -- Best LHAC player in many years will star at UPJ. State AA POY?
2. Vescovi -- Hit the weights son. Play some AAU ball. Light feet, good hands = Great potential.
3. Weatherly -- talent will have to fit into a team play system. Can he do it? I would say yes.
4. Kaminsky -- Go Shade Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best westpac player and team in many years.
5. Gallaher -- ??
Note: JHS collapse in first round of state playoffs to #6 team out of D3 was surprise of year in local boys hoops. Spisak omission from local All Star game roster biggest injustice. Will JHS 9th grade team realize it's potential?? Stay tuned.
GIRLS -- in no particular order
1. Pastorek -- 2nd best player in D6 behind State College's Cooper. All state player IUP bound.
2. Burkett -- 16 PPG coming off knee injury. Will lead team to D6 title next season.
3. Williams -- Once a guard, now a post with guard skills. Bright future. State A POY for sure.
4. Buchan -- Best interior defender in years. Led team in giving BG only loss of season.
5. Danel -- Best of the Westpac. Threw up 17 against AA state champ and ND recruit. This kid can play.
Note: Girls game much stronger locally than boys for about 10t year in a row. LHAC superiority showed in state playoffs. McCort plays 4 games vs state champions and two against state semi finalists plus Altoona and State College. Same schedule next year?

psycho=JOHNSTOWN and DROMAN HATER ALERT!!!
Jtown's collapse was the biggest surprise???? Are you kidding me?
How about CC's run in the District and state playoffs? How about Cambria Heights's breakout season?

Re: Top 5 basketball players in the area
psycho- Weatherly will have to fit into a team system....you're kidding right. Check maxpreps to see who was second on their team in assists. He did what was necessary for Johnstown to win. Some nights it took 30 points, some nights it took 8.
Johnstown's loss in states biggest story of the year? You must know a thing about District 3 basketball. It is head and shoulders above D6.
A better Johnstown story would have been the complete turnaround from a losing record to 18-7 and district championship.
Get off the haterade.

Kaminsky - good choice, I didn't even think of him. I'm still considering others though.
Another question - How far would Psycho's team go? (assuming we give him some depth and a coach)

WPIAL Titan aka "senior" and sleepy,
Personally I think young Dave is one of the best, if not the best HS coach in the area. What I and alot of other JHS fans observed at Richland in the 1st round against the #6 team out of D3 was embarrassing because it was so obvious that the kids did not listen to their coach. You could see and feel his frustration on the bench. SOME of them did what they wanted, ran no offense, got beat defensively and tried to take everything off the dribble at bad times. There was no continuity or team chemistry. It was individual SHOWTIME but our kids were stuffed into a sack by a bunch of fundamentally sound kids from the 6th best AAA team in District 3 who travelled 3 hours to play in our back yard but who athletically should not have even been on the floor with the Trojan starting 5. The difference was they listened to their coach.
If the next group of Trojans will listen to their coach, they will be untouchable. If they do as this group did and SOME of them play their own game for their own glory, they will beat most of the teams around here and flop in the state playoffs, just like this team did. I know it's a building process and I wish Dave the best.

I think one of the surprises may be the run of the district 5 boys A teams into the playoffs.Tussey gave the western champs a very good game with key people missing, shade and nbc were also solid.I think no one gave any of them a snowballs chance in hell at the begining of the year.

Re: Top 5 basketball players in the area
psycho, That was a backhanded compliment...What are your coaching credentials? (silence)
Yeah, that's what I thought. Coaching the OMOS or Visitation 4th graders doesn't count.

OK,
Miller
Weatherly
Vescovi
Gallaher
Kaminsky
With acouple of years playing together, a good coach and a good bench to supply depth to all aspects of the game, I think they could have won A, AA & possibly AAA (at least the west anyway) state championships this year.

Re: Top 5 basketball players in the area
How do you think the private schools win all the time. They CAN get an all-star team around their area and they DO win it all!!
