It wasn't really typical of them, though. They traded McLouth, whom they had for 3 more years at a decent price. Usually, they trade a guy that's contract that is going to expire, so they get whatever they can. This year they went a different direction by trading their best player with multiple years left on his contract. It was stupid. If a player has a decent contract and you're going to trade him before it's even close to being up, you better get that team's best prospect. The Pirates didn't even come close.
