But coaches should be more concerned about their program than the happiess of the senior bench warmer. By playing this senior in the JV game, you are taking away experience from a sophmore or junior possibly playing varsity next year.

JonD1, I believe you meant to say are seniors eligible to play JV. I do not see any problem with a senior being allowed to play JV and I am not sure as far as any official rules on the subject.

I suppose you're right but unless the player whose spot is taken by the senior has a real future in the sport, it should not matter. You're only in high school once. Anyway, I was told that it was stated in the LHAC rules that student-athletes who have already played 2 years of high school sports, may not play JV in their third year of varsity eligibility.

I think it definitely matters about the playing time of the younger student-athlete. he could potentially be a solid role player or blossom into a star. And by playing someone who has no future in the sport in his place, could slow his progression and prevent him from becoming the best player he can possibly be.

It is interesting that after two years you cannot play JV because the JV games do not matter in the standings and there are not any trophies given out for the best JV team. Why should it matter if a senior plays JV?

I'm not necessarily saying it does! I'm just saying there may be a rule...but I guess it all depends on how seriously you take the sport.

I believe that if a senior does not make varsity and there are enough players on the team that the coach is forced to "cut" players, then the senior should be the one cut. I does not help the team or the player to be playing JV. This is of course, if the senior did not play sophmore year or somehow he still has JV eligability left.

Why are we even talking about this?

There are things in scholastic sports that are more important than winning or losing. If a senior isn't good enough for varsity, but can play JV, then by all means let them do it. It's just a game after all and really has no meaning whatsoever.
