Connellsville, late 80's early 90's, good football. Won WPIAL in 92 I think. Wheels have completely fallen off, Norwin is a decent program, Hempfield can;t get kids to come out, and Latrobe is too small of a AAAA school to be taken seriously. Pen-Trafford has had its moments, but none lately

Man, Penn Trafford used to be a GREAT program when I graduated---I used to have a few friends from those powerhouse teams. Where did Yaccino end up going? I haven't paid much attention to WPIAL football since I moved away.

As for Norwin, I know I just went back and it looks like a college campus.....didn't look like that when I was in school!!!

Yaccino went home to Hazleton Area, a huge AAAA school with over 1400 boys. He struggled mightily and was let go.

PT had some GREAT teams and Cville was never any good???

PT has been good at times and solid almost always, but aside from a dramatic 28-27 loss to USC in the WPIAL Championship (I think it was still at 3rivers then), I wouldn't classify them as great.

Cville did win a WPIAL championship and as was previously stated for much of the 80's and early 90's was able to battle with the WPIAL elite.

I guess memories get cloudy with age.

Sorry, but I wasn't in High School in the 80's, so I wouldn't know (or remember) if Connellsville was good or not. When I hear Connellsville I associate them with wrestling, not football. As for PT, not sure what your talking about there, because they had some nice teams in the early 90's. If you would have READ my posts (instead of picking out what you 'wanted' to read), you would have seen that I haven't been back home since the mid-90's, and haven't followed them since.

Sorry I missed those couple good Connellsville years, lol.

Sponsky would have been the answer for the problems that they are having at Altoona.
His success at BC has been outstanding. They are in a rut now with a lack of athletes and size, but coaching wise I think he is top notch.
