Re: The Gospel According to JAYPA...
TAE, you are right that the numbers are bad. However, Texas has guys every year leaving early for the NFL. Texas has guys transfer every year because of the lack of playing time. Texas throws guys off the team every year for slacking in the classroom or for off the field mishaps. Texas redshirts next to no one, so most players aren't on campus for 5 years. How many people do you know that don't even play football graduate in four years? The person posting above stated that Texas should not be able to play in a BCS game because of that? Really? Colt McCoy, Jordan Shipley, and many other players should be penalized for all of that? That's like saying that just because a party at your dorm room gets busted that everyone in the dorm should be penalized. It's idiotic and that's why I wasn't going to touch this subject.
Penalize the whole University of Texas football team because Vince Young, Jamaal Charles, Jermichael Finley, Earl Thomas, and so on and so forth left the University early. Penalize the University of Texas because guys like Jevan Snead and G.J. Kinne transfer to get an opportunity to play. Penalize the University of Texas because guys like Dan Buckner, Buck Burnette, and Brandon Collins can't cut it in the classroom or have issues off the field, so Texas cuts their ties with them. Texas has their own system in the players that they recruit and it works out well for them. Don't give me this graduation rate garbage because it's absolutely meaningless until they take more factors into it.

Re: The Gospel According to JAYPA...
Who is most obsessed with PSU football?
A. Coach
B. TAE
C. KirkHerbstreit
D. WPIAL-Titan
I might go with D. In reality he has the most posts on here about Penn State. He has always shown more interest in them than any other team, and he posts more reading material and links about PSU than any of us. For some reason, I end up reading this stuff when I know what it is going to say before I even click. I guess this is a better place to post than PantherLair though because we get more traffic and we talk about PSU just as much here as they do there.
I have spent an evening eating dinner with Jay at a clinic and he's a great guy. I bet if you were JoePa or Wanny or ????'s son and you could coach football for a living, you'd probably turn it down too....

Re: The Gospel According to JAYPA...
Deliverence, I understand certain circumstances arise that will drop those numbers but personally I think 50% should be a minimum requirement. Most of the other schools with numbers under 50% have had a coaching change. This is one thing the NCAA needs to address and I have been saying that for years. The NCAA puts many programs on probation for some minor recruiting violations but they continue to turn the other cheek to graduation rates. I did not know that Texas's numbers were that low and I expected better for a great university with coaching stability.

Re: The Gospel According to JAYPA...
After reading Coach's post I began to think about WPInheAdL's wonderful posts and I came to two conclusions:
1) WPInheAdL is so obessed with Penn State his disorder can be found in the DSM IV. Dissociative Identity Disorder comes to mind. Dissociative Identity Disorder is listed as A: The presence of two or more distinct identitites or personality states (each with its own relatively enduring pattern of perceving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and self). B: At least two of these identities or personality states recurrently take control of the person's behavior. and C: Inability to recall important personal information that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness.
2) WPInheAdL is just a dic*.
So you can see I am really torn on this one, its to close to call.

I am pretty sure that early entries are accounted in the GSR's. Regardless, I will never accuse Mack Brown of shenanigans. He kicks players off the team on a regular basis, and for that I am appreciative. I like him a lot.
