I believe Andy Rush from Somerset may have been selected in the first round of the MLB draft in the late 80's...

Nope, Rush was a 2nd rounder...He never pitched above high-A ball. How was he taken ahead of Mark Woehlers, let alone Blas Minor that year???????

I believe Blas Minor went in the sixth round, Keith Richardson was the Pirates second rounder that year.

The Red Sox took Jeff Bagwell two rounds later as a fourth rounder.

So would it make sense to move baseball to the fall?

I understand your point WPIAL...I just wanted to take a walk on the positive side of Western PA Baseball. I was always taught to find the good in all, it's better for you!! I will not argue your points because they are facts regarding the elements of our area.

Tim Conroy, John "Sarge" Mizerock and Devon Mesaraco were all first rounders. Punsxutawney should be proud to claim two first rounders in Sarge and Devon, Punsxy Phil is not the only big dog in Jefferson County.

I also was aware of Dave Hoenstine not playing in the bigs, he was a call up.

Ron Blazier pitches about 100 innings in the bigs and nearly 900 in the minors with 100 minor league decisions. So he had truly paid his baseball dues but as for Helsel, Peterman and Szynal They did have short lived careers.

Jon Szynal played longer in the Phillies organization than you might think.

An interesting note with Szynal...he hit about .300 at all levels of A ball and maybe even a time at AA. However, his eyesight could not adapt to the night games and his batting average was dismal at night. He tried all sorts of glasses/contacts and corrective measures, but could never get it right.

What an arm from the outfield though...Wow!
