Wait, so is the Nebraska game a guaranteed yearly game then? I am confused as to what "protected" means.

Yes, Nebraska is the guaranteed cross divisional game for Penn State. The guaranteed divisional game is Ohio State. Penn State will play both Ohio State and Nebraska every year, and from the looks of it, will end the Big Ten regular season with Wisconsin.

Flip it around for Ohio State...their guaranteed cross divisional game is Michigan, and their guaranteed divisional game is Penn State.

Well, they certainly have their work cut out for them now, because it will be much harder year to year. This is why taking 6 month recruiting breaks is an insanely idiotic idea.

PSU has their 5 divisional opponents EVERY year.
They have 2 crossover games other than the protected game. You'll see teams I think it is 4 times every 10 years since you'll play 2, then there will be 3 you don't play.
They have 1 protected game vs the other division that will be played every year and that is Nebraska.
