GIbbons is solid, enough said. Injury or illness is all that could derail him.

From what ive heard he got caught, the score was 1-1 when he got hit with a headlock. Every wrestler has been caught i dont buy that much into that loss.

Yeah, he was tied 1-1 with under a minute left in the match. But the kid he was wrstling is tough.

Just so everyone knows Gibbons was in control and the more aggresive wrestler in the Boiling Springs final. The kid that he lost to was tough but not unbeatable. He was also a Virginia state champ. Also Caleb Grimes lost 7-1 in the finals to a Virginia state champ.

I don't know that you can say he was in control in a 1-1 match. Was he contoling position and tempo? Maybe. Was he good enough to win? Yes. But he still lost. There shouldn't be any moral victorys for Gump at this point. To reach the goals he has set for himself he needs to beat those kids. I think he can but he still needs to improve on some things over the rest of this year moving into states. He is as talented as anyone I have seen from Bedford in a long time.

baer, suter, dunmeyer, kerr, krupa, craig, sollenberger... nice list that only covers two weight classes at D5.

I was just thinking about how loaded 215 is right now in D5. Currently you have...

2 returning state qualifiers (Baer, Suter)
2 returning D5 champs (Craig, Dunmeyer)
1 PJW state champ (Krupa)

Could this be the first time all three D5 placewinners go to Hershey? District 6 is pretty weak at this weight right now and D7 isn't real deep either. However I have a hunch Baer and Dunmeyer will be down soon. But then how loaded will 189 be with those two, as well as Sollenberger and Brett? District 5 is aweful impressive in the upperweights this year.

I think Dunmeyer has already been down at some point. But 189-285 all could send 3 quality kids to regionals. Hopefully we can get a few 3rd placers through to states this year. Especially with Dave Marko beating the drum to reduce D-5 to 2 qualifiers.

Dunmeyer was at 189 for the first match of the year, but I think that he's been at 215 since then.

215 has been odd in that only 2 of the top 5 have met yet (Craig 8-4 over Baer), and I think that the only other opportunity was at the Southmoreland tournament - Dunmeyer lost early & didn't meet Suter.

@189 Blough from Somerset and Deffibaugh from Ridge have the potential to knock off a D5 contender also.

If Dave Marko is seriously pushing for D5 to lose a qualifying spot then he is swimming upstream against a strong PIAA river of permitting a minimum of 3 qualifiers to advance from each district to regionals. He'd have better luck getting the SW regional tournament expanded to 16 wrestlers at each weight, 3 from D5, 5 from D6 and 8 from D7.

From a team performance perspective D5 appears to be doing just fine this year. In just this past week Ridge (34-30), Somerset (39-21), and Bedford (40-26) have victories over Penn Cambria, perhaps the 4th best team in D6AA. Plus with Somerset's 5 freshman starters, Bedford's young lineup, and North Star's loaded junior high team D5 looks to be in good shape for the near future.
