The "problem" with parking, anywhere, for any sport, is everyone has the mentality they should be able to show up 5 minutes before the beginning of an event, and be able to park right up front. Think I am wrong? just look at shopping centers. Unless you drive a new Beemer or Lexus, no way do you park more than 50 yards away from the front door. Fact. Get your lazy posteriors there earlier and know before you get there, anywhere, what the parking situation is. Another thing, most of you expect to be able to park FOR FREE. ANYWHERE! There are many small businesses in downtown Johnstown that have to pay for ridiculous crap like a "commuter tax". All they are doing is passing it along to you, the sports consumer. Suck it up and shell out a couple bucks. Cut back a bit on your smokes and brew, if you can't afford a couple bucks to park. A small sacrifice to put out if you truly support the kids and the sport.

Couldn't agree more. Honestly, with the new parking garage (I guess not so new anymore) a mere 100 yards or so from the war memorial, I've never had a problem with parking for any event there - including regionals. I just assumed I was in the minority based on everyone complaining about parking there.

They are gonna lose a lot of money buy doing this! A lot of people will not be able to attend now that it is in the morning. Plus a very quick turn around for the wrestlers! Areana football is a joke! Back when they where the jdoggs and had a winning season people did not even attend the games!

I honestly didn't even know Johnstown had arena football. There will be way more people at regionals than the football game right?

I would imagine over an entire weekend with tickets sales for 3 sessions and food sales gate would be WAY higher for the Wrestling. However, I am sure the football team is contracted with the war memorial and the league and that not much can be done about it.

I never thought of it that way, but its the truth i have a feeling wrestling will draw more people in then that football game. I didnt know eaither that arena football was back. Why did it leave in the first place?

D5 should ask to use Richland for districts. It would be perfect and netural. As for regionals i dont want to see it leave Johnstown it is well run tournament good venue minus the parking i understand! Wasnt is a college Basketball tournment that messed up regionals at UPJ?

I've heard Richland mentioned before also. We'll have to see how Windber holds up this year with Somerset there as well.

I think that somebody dropped the ball with scheduling for the weekend. When schedules are being made, teams/arenas give the league dates that do no suit for events. See the Hershey Bears for numerous wrestling weekends, also Heinz Field for WPIAL finals. Since hockey is mostly gone the War Memorial has very little activity, so it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't want max business.

So either the PIAA/SW Regional didn't reserve the building in a timely manner or the War Memorial/indoor football team failed to notify league that regionals weekend would not suit for a game.

and that right there is probably why the hockey left...the war memorial/city of Johnstown seem to not manage anything right.

The Johnstown franchise ( Generals) folded because the entire league was in financial distress. Not enough fans, though if you ever go, it is a novel experience. The War Memorial sells ***BEER*** at the arena games. Enough said. The price of concessions is tantamount to consumer rape. Take lots of $$$ if you ever go to the W.M. for -ANY- event. Why an individual can't buy a one-time ticket at a slightly reduced price for the entire wrestling program is totally beyond me. The W.M. isn't run as a consumer driven business, its a politically driven business run by the Cambria Co. Commissioners. It's not like your typical business that has sales or offers various discounts. It's called charge top dollar and hope enough heads are counted to turn a profit, and if it doesn't, they'll ask for more money in the next years budget to make up the shortfall. It didn't help that the former long-time manager had sticky fingers clear up to his elbows to the tune of what was it, $ 700,000 ?
