I guess it's a maximum of 12 and obviously schools can decline invitations if they choose.

If I'm not mistaken I believe last year was the first year they reduced the max number to 12. Correct me if I'm wrong davesandstorm.

It's a good move. They only ever maxed out at 13, and BG entered with a 3-6 record before, unnecessary to have 16 spots open for only 23 teams.

I believe you're correct. I also agree with Ghost, it's unnecessary to have 16 teams in with only 23 in the class.
