Altoona is terrible. Holidaysburg is marginal and State College may have a half decent team. My point is that wasting two of your six non-conference games playing anyone from the pitiful westpac when you have a team like the Trojans have is nuts. What could they possibly gain from these type of games?
Could it be that they play in the Mt Cat. Tournament against WestPAC teams because they have the Johnstown mentality? Maybe it doesn't matter if they win states, as long as they win the Mt. Cat and District 6.

It doesnt matter how big Altoona or any school is -- it matters how good their team is. Just because a team is AAAA doesn't automatically make them "good" or even formidable competition. You see, competition is relative. The fact that Altoona has beaten some WPIAL schools means absolutely zilch. The WPIAL has been weak overall in hoops for years. WPIAL is almost irrelevant anymore, just like football. Why do you think Graham left? When your recruiting base is no longer even in the top 10 recruiting destinations in the country, you have a problem if you are expected to win in a major D1 conference like ACC.

As far as your comment say oww -- at least you are being honest. Looks like you have learned something from me this year. :D
Merry Christmas to you.

Psycho,

So let me get this straight. Johnstown shouldnt play anyone in District 5 or 6 because they are too talented. Also, the WPIAL is too weak so they shouldnt play anyone from there either. I'm assuming you would think D9, D4, and D10 would probably be too weak as well.

Exactly who should Johnstown play? Youve eliminated over half of the teams in the state! Your expectations of this team are way to big. They have 5 nice hs basketball players, no depth and their best player is hurt. Therefore they should be ashamed for beating local teams? Please.

The Mountain Cat Tournament is by invitation and it's a chance to play on a college floor. It's a decent tournament for this area and it's something the teams agreed to play in last year. I don't know that Johnstown would have accepted the invitation had they known what would happen at NS over the course of the past 365 days. Even with NS sending a much weaker team than was expected, it's not a waste of games, it's a chance to stay in Johnstown and get some recognition (I know you're opposed to kids getting recognition).

J-town only beat forest hills by 14 and f.h. lost there two studs. F.h. took 4th in a season opening tourney at ridge. The teams there weren't that strong either, shade won, ridge 2nd, ligonier 3rd, and f.h. 4th

Exactly what does it matter the score you beat someone by as long as you win?

The fact of the matter is Johnstown needs to challenge themselves if they want to make a real run in the state playoffs. There is nothing wrong with playing teams from the WestPac, but when you’re the biggest school in the area and have the most athletes it’s really not preparing you for playoff time. I think what we also see is the fact that the Johnstown players have not progressed over the last three years. They have stayed the same and have not widened the gap against other local teams. Instead the other teams have closed the gap and improved. No summer program for basketball will equal Johnstown not winning the LHAC this season. I’m going to predict they don’t win the D6 either. Somerset has closed the gap enough to upset them.

Apparently everyone is forgetting only three of their starting five are there from last year. One hurt and one at Westmont. The one that is hurt is their best overall player. If the best player on any other team wasnt playing how good would each of those teams be?

On one hand you have people saying they don't play good enough competition.
On the other hand you have people saying they are barely better than the teams they are playing. Which is it?
