Not taking anything away from the johnstown head coach but i coached the johnstown boys team when they played youth ball & the talent those boys have is just by far better than the local kids around in this area...this was exspected of the trojan boys basketball team even with Q.B. transfering...heres a funny story & this is why when you have a talented team you shouldn't be a coach of the year unless you win something major & not just a district 6AAA title...when i coached these kids i would put them in different leagues tournaments & camps...one time they even played 5 games in one day well that day the games they played the times where kind of over lapping one another so we would leave one gym & get to the next gym as soon as possible. unfortunatly the car i was driving to our next game with a few of our players in it got a flat tire i was close enough where me & the boys could walk the rest of the way & thats what we did the game had already started do to the leadership we had on our team (Dwight Andrews).he told the official our coach is on his way, well i probably could have stayed home because when i arrived the score was already 15-6 & that right there makes me understand that when you have that kind of talent your going to win no matter what.... i think i was there just to call the time outs for the kids...lol!!! i love my boys jittney, dwight, isiah,mark,damien,daniel,Q.B.,& Qwaul who is now the starting piont guard for bishop mccort...good luck fellows!!!

Exactly the point I wanted to make to bucco boy and sporty. There is an abundance of talent there ( yeah, I bit my tongue as I said it) and it doesn't take much of a coach to get those results against lesser opponents. Which is why someone else would be more deserving of the honor. Just sayin'.

Coach of the year…..Please. Let’s look at it this way Teams Jtown has played equal or bigger in size.

Somerset : 2-0
Hollidaysburg: 0-1
Altoona: 1-0
State College: 0-1
They are 3-2 against schools the same size as them. I know they can’t control who they play but this would be like Ohio State playing in the league with St. Francis and then when they played a major basically going .500. I wouldn’t consider that coach of the year or team of the year. It’s the same old story, Jtown dominates smaller schools gets into the playoffs and gets blown out by a school the same size as them. Like competition is how you judge success. If this was the NCAA Jtown would have a Strength of Schedule of 125.

This guy says Johnstown dominates smaller schools gets into the playoffs and then gets blown out.

Well, how about we actually look at FACTS:

24-9 vs AAA competition in playoffs since 2003. (I think that shoots your theory right out of the water.)
5-1 vs WPIAL in state playoffs in that period.
6 of last 8 d6 AAA champions
2004 State runners up
Is there another district 6 team that has won 24 playoff games since 2003? There may be but I highly doubt it.

Also, apparently you forgot Forest Hills was AAA this year. Apparently you didn't want to mention James Wood out of VA which is bigger than Johnstown. That would make them 5-2 this year against teams of equal or bigger size.

You said they get blown out against equal competition? How do you explain their 24-9 record and 5-1 record against the WPIAL in the playoffs against AAA competition? Last time I checked these were teams all in AAA. That not good enough for you? How about 6 of the last 8 AAA d6 championships. Is that not against AAA competition?

BTW I've never said he deserves coach of the year. But here is a question. When people are speaking about Tyrone they say the coach did a great job keeping all those talented kids happy because they could all be stars anywhere else. Why can't the same be said with Johnstown?

Dave Roman Jr. from Westmont Hilltop has to be it!
They went 18-4 in the regular season. Only losses coming from Johnstown(2), McCort, Bishop Carrol (buzzer beater). There impressive wins are Hollidaysburg, Penn Cambria, McCort, and Somerset (2). With their star player, Que Brandon, he leads the league in PPG with 23.2, 2.4 blocks per game and 12.0 rebounds per game.

exactly my point. how can a coach be coach of the year when he doesn't even make his conference championship game? Cobaugh beat westy 2 times by double digits. Q brandon/AJ leahy player of the year in the LHAC i agree. Jtown may have 1 first team LHAC player. Very good nucleus and core but losing Q and Hasselrig til mid January limited their star power. Could very much argue Q/AJ Leahy/Trexler/Hipp all 1st team members before any johnstown player. Yet they went undefeated in LHAC which is very impressive.

I'd like to throw Brent Gerwert from Bellwood into the mix. Granted, B-A plays a poor ICC schedule, but since Gerwert has taken over four years ago this team has gotten progressively better, making the state playoffs last year by beating a heavily favored Penns Valley team, and they're a win against Westmont to making it to their first District Title game since 2003. Before Gerwert got there, B-A basketball was on the edge of becoming irrelevant. Now, despite coming from a weak league, are among the top of competition again.

Manny,
I honestly dont get that. Why do you bite your tongue while saying that? Does it bother you that johnstown has good players? I for one have rooted for and will continue to root for any d6 team when state playoff time comes.
I am curious why others dont feel the same. Is this the "johnstown mentality" people always speak of? Please tell me im reading to much into that comment.

First of all I would never ask you because I already know the answer you old miserable grouch. What part of my statement was unclear that you would ask that question? Of course I would root for Altoona. Now go back to being miserable.
