The current players were in the primary grades when this stuff occurred.

I think the staff will move past it; what else can they do? As for the rest of us misguided fools who have loved Penn State long before Joe Paterno took the reins, it's our duty to remain mired in shame, depthless guilt, self doubt, and a host of other self-annilating emotions that shrinks make their livings off of.

The idea of once again going to a game in Beaver Stadium and actually appearing to enjoy ourselves, is of course, reprehensible because we are all responsible for Sandusky's sins and the sins of the fathers, so to speak. Every dang one of us.

In my own case it started in the mid fifties or so when I'm told I went with my father and uncle to Penn State to see the Nittany Lions play Syracuse at New Beaver Field. Syracuse had a good running back named Jim Brown. I was only a little twerp so I can't confirm any of this other than to report that my mother said I had a good time.

This started a lifetime of going to Penn State gridiron games and, as I got older, enjoying myself more and more, to my endless shame. If I were still a practicing Catholic, I would have so many sins to confess concerning my affiliation with PSU football and my misguided delight in it, that I'd be doing penace for hours. Maybe even days! Of course my wife, my sons, relatives, countless friends -- we all have contributed to and helped create this malignant culture. Thank God so many friends, thinking only of our souls, have reminded us, time and time again, so thoughtfully of our transgressions.
