PSU fans and Paterno symps think they're sane and that the 98% of rest of the world's people are cultists.
A Culture of Secrecy and stubborn arrogance permeates PSU's football program and its cult followers. Simply put, PSU operated a maverick, renegade program with obvious indifference to NCAA regs and had a blatant disregard for anyone and anything that interfered with their image and cash cow, including the safety of children. Proof of this was that they fired their VP of Student Affairs when she dared to infringe on Paterno's control and ultimately allowed Paterno to "discipline" his own players, rather than comply with DOE & Title IX Regulations. Wait until they show how PSU doctored their graduation rates to portray yet another false image of the grand experiment. Are you trying to tell me that these things haven't been a competitive advantage for the PSU football program for the past 2 decades, probably longer?
Paterno reported to no one. On the contrary, the administration reported to him. PSU allowed money making and the maintenance of a false pristine image trump education and the innocent souls of young boys...and now the cultists like some of the posters here (who claim they aren't cultists) are whining and crying that the world is being too harsh and unfair to their program. Really now.
The fact is that the NCAA let PSU football off easy.
The NCAA would have been justified in shutting down PSU football. It should have been shut down for 4-6 years, which would allow enough time for the university to get their priorities straight, rebuild trust and intergrity, and to deemphasize the program. Then, the program could have been brought back in the PSAC and PSU could play with the other state and state related schools where they belong. Let PSU show how improtant football is in the scheme of things by playing Lock Haven University for the I-80 Cup.
The digging isn't over yet. The FBI, IRS, US Department of Ed, and a host of other agencies are still involved. The NCAA may enhance the sanctions as more truths are revealed.
