I played for a public school once and to tell you the truth...it didn't really matter to me if Catholic schools recruited or not. They were on our schedule and they are just like any other team. I think that public schools should stop using the excuse that they are private school or catholic school when they lose to them.

How could you deny that it makes a difference?

Its like an all-star team competing against a school's team.

Yeah Ham....

the people whine knowing they have to beat a team of all stars pretty much.

Then why play the sport at all if all they are going to do is whine? Isn't sports about competition and playing against competition? Because if that isn't sports please let me know what sports is all about because I would like to know.

So if Division 2 college teams played all Division 1 teams, I'm sure they'd love it too....

That is the point. IT is a fact, look at the state finals this year in basketball and you will see what I mean. Probably over half the teams in the finals will be private, and private schools only make up about 5% of all the schools in our state.

Ok, so I was home today and found this letter to the editor. The Rev's letter is the most absurd thing I have ever seen in the gazette. He twisted Sam's words so much and over-interpreted. He turned it into an attack on Catholocism and said it wasn't even about athletics. He said the only advantage Catholics schools have is to prove that they belong in this nation. With all the b.s. this guy is throwing out, he should be posting on bleachercoaches.

Let me tell ya Mr. Dusza, if you can find Sam's article to mean that, then I think it could also be found to say that the PIAA made the weight rule to keep Kendall from wrestling 103 and the Thomas finalist's of past years were all duds. It just isn't there!

So IEATHAM, if sports is just about competition, then why transfer from a public school to a private school? Can you explain?
And about the Rev.'s letter, I believe it was waaayyy out of line. I know Sam personally and the Rev's remarks have no basis. Still wondering if I should write a response.
I personally don't care who the other team is that you are playing against. The bottom line is that you have to play them and nothing is going to change.

Father Dusza owes Sam Shuss a public apology, written in the Gazette for everyone to see. To call someone a bigot is a serious charge and one that should not be leveled by the ignorant. It seems that being in the minority gives that group the excuse to call some one a bigot or claim discrimination anytime someone diagrees with them. Its total garbage and happens far too often.

I know Sam and the uninformed response by the priest is why Sam doesn't post on here ( to my knowledge). If the priest ever talked to personally to Sam about this matter (as I have on several occasions) he would learn that Sam in thinks that the private academies and NOT the parochial schools have the most advantage. If Father Dusza had some more gray matter and less of a forked tongue he would see that the Glen Mills, the Scotland School, George Jr., Milton Hershey School, etc. have had more of an unfair advantage than do the catholic schools.

If the father says this publically in the newspaper it makes you wonder what he's preaches to his congregation from the pulpit or counsels to others in private!

for the priest to turn sam's comments about private school sports into a religous issue is terrible. He really should be ashamed to act as if these athletes choose private schools for religous reasons.

Sam's article was well written and true.
