I see they cut out the second D5 team, and just added another D6 team. I also see D6 AAA now plays a D3 team instead of a lower seeded WPIAL team. That doesn't bode well for District 6. I'm glad the play-in was eliminated.

Play ins were eliminated because money was being lost, and long bus rides were created for teams on a Tuesday night. For example, Ridge bused close to 3 hours last year to lose by 50 to Quaker Valkey in front of 100 people. I'm sure that D5 isn't happy to lose the 5-2 bid in PIAA AA, because in years when they have 2 really good teams, one stays home. Same thing happens in 6AAAA.
The PIAA looks at the number of teams each district has in each classification and assigns bids accordingly. District 1 is a huge district and they now receive 10 PIAA bids in AAAA, which they deserve. Just a few years back, the 1-9 team (Penn Wood) made the PIAA AAAA semis. They earned it as they had to play back through the 1AAAA consys just to get to PIAAs because they were upset in the D1 AAAA sweet 16.
...Now WPIAL's method called "follow the winner" to determine PIAA bids? WRong at so many levels.
