Re: 2013 Johnstown Colt Baseball
The shame of the matter is that people don't realize just what type of leagues and competition we could have if some weren't so greedy and selfish and only concerned about themselves. Imagine if the colt league stayed 15 and 16 and got teams in cambria, somerset, blair and Bedford counties involved then 17 and 18 year olds played legion( which is about what they are going to in 2015 ) as those who have completed there freshman year in college will no longer be eligible. Following that, then kids will enter into AAABA baseball. Just my thoughts !!

Totally agree with deerslayer.

I agree with both of you guys 100%. From what I have seen, most rules in Johnstown are designed to stifle competition. The effect is that the size of every league has decreased, and competition has gone down. The same goes forr Legion ball. For example, look at how Bedford dominates legion since they have the entire county to choose from. On the flipside, the Johnstown leagues all are wide open, but because there is no draft a few teams get all of the marquee kids and then beat up on the lesser known kids.
But like you guys said, it is sad how the selfish prevent the leagues from opening up, increasing competition, and flourishing. The irony is that Johnstown actually believes they can win the AAABA tournament with a local contingent while every other AAABA league in the country has wide open recruiting. Do you actually think the guys who run Delweld, Martella's, Boilers, and Breakers actually want the other teams to be able to grab unlimited kids from Bedford, Altoona, Pittsburgh, and other places? The same goes with Bedford legion. They could have two teams from that area, but that would end their reign.

Bedford does not pull from Tussey Mountain for Legion so they do not have the entire county.
Re: 2013 Johnstown Colt Baseball
Okay, so excluding Tussey Mountain means that Bedford only has the 42,000 of the 49,000 population from which to select a team. But since part of Tussey Mountain is in Huntingdon county, then it could be closer to 45,000 total population.

Good to know. I didn't realize Bedford Legion was cheating.

I for some reason thought Claysburg and NBC were not part of Bedford Legion either. I thought NBC was part of Claysburg's team?
Re: 2013 Johnstown Colt Baseball
I don't know where the line is drawn, but NBC kids have played for Bedford for years. Claysburg has kids from Blair County including Martinsburg and Holidaysburg.

It makes no sense that these teams are using wood. College is the goal for these kids, and they use aluminum in college.
And the Colt went to 17 so that the new AAABA teams wouldn't take all of the good 17s. Delweld and Martella's wouldn't have any room for 17s. Just assume anything that goes on in Johnstown is crooked. They manage to screw-up everything.

And every college baseball players goal is to be pro. Which uses wooden bats?
