I'm in no way shape or form defending Bellwood. But here's n answer to your question. Jeff long opening all these Greystone complexes( they are for 55 & over) folks that age aren't having kids anytime soon... The avg age in towns like Bellwood and Tyrone keep going up too. I know the "old folks home" in my neighborhood has a waiting list... These people are coming in from other communities. So population either maintains or rises slightly, but # of young people keeps going down.

Does anyone know if these numbers are for male students in the top 3 grades or the top 4 (I'm assuming the top 3)? Also, are the numbers for this year's top 3 classes (i.e. current seniors, juniors, and sophomores) or the current kids that are freshman, sophomores, and juniors?

In looking at the numbers on the PIAA site there are a few schools that are very close to the line where they would have to move up a classification. However, their numbers may well have changed since this current two year cycle was instituted.

Any help clarifying how the numbers are figured would be greatly appreciated.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA No they don't, this is ridiculous. I went to BA and my kids go to BA. If you follow history since the PIAA started playoffs Bellwood has been AA several times, mid-to-late 80's and 00-01 seasons. There were NO kids who I went to school with who "all the sudden" went to a private school in high school, I went to school with the same kids the whole way up through, yea we had a few move away and move in but who doesn't. Plus when I played, we were Single A and were apart of the MAC conference and the ICC conference and we played a primarily AA schedule: Tyrone, Penns Valley, Bald Eagle, South Huntingdon, Mount Union, Philispburg Osceola, and Chestnut Ridge. And we beat ALL those AA schools except Tyrone who are ALL bigger than Bellwood-Antis...

Don't worry Bellwood fans. This is the same thing that Windber fans hear all the time.

I feel like most people on here act like they would rather play the Little Giants to win a district title than to have to beat a team like Bellwood who is traditionally good. Championships shouldn't be given to you, earn them!

I talked to some folks around town. The numbers you are quoting are from the first year their school opened when they only had about 40 kids. Word is that that have a little over 100 now.

d6footballfan wrote:and Bellwood will have 174 boys enrolled so they stay single A in football. Happens every time the PIAA enrollment numbers come out that they some how manage to stay just on or under the line. SMH
That would mean Bellwood is biggest A school out there. I wonder if rock wood was in the field next year if BA would.of moved up. Sure the champagne in Bellwood is going off today

The enrollment figures listed at the PIAA site, including the 15 boys @ St. Joe's, is for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons.

Elect "up" a class decision is due by Dec. 10th.

Gateway in WPIAL is @ AAA level for football.
New Castle @ AAA for basketball.
