Big win for the Lady Titans. ICC co-leader is 2-0 against Mountain League teams this year.

They're tough. If it goes to free throws late.... Your done, they don't miss. Totally shut down a good close game.

Saint Joseph's 60
Cameron County 55

Went to see the highly touted 6'-7" junior Nate Sestina from Cameron County while they were in town and he did not disappoint. He carried the previously undefeated Raiders with 28 points and 24 rebounds. The big man handles the ball very well and could play a 3, 4 or 5. Saint Joseph's had no answer for him on the glass, but slowed him greatly in the 2nd half with a double team out of their zone. Saint Joseph's had balanced scoring throughout the lineup and were lights out in the 3rd quarter. They might surprise a mid seed in the Class A playoffs if disregarded. There's no way they could hang with BC, BG or HC however. Cameron County dropped to 15-1 while Saint Joseph's improved to 7-5.

Wow !- Cameron County loses to St. Joes and they were undefeated ?? I had to look and make sure it was the same St.Joes JV played earlier. JV manhandled them. Thnx for the post, I think it speaks volumes about how tough D6 A and AA are this year.

You're welcome. I'm not sure what to make of Saint Joseph's. They have been blown out quite a bit this year (e.g. JV, North Catholic, Towanda, PV). The win against Cameron County is their only one against a team with a winning record, but they sure looked good during that one. They have Penn Cambria and Dubois Central Catholic coming up, so we should get a sense of if this was just lightning striking or not.

The bigger story around here has been State College at 1-14. Most folks realized they would be down this year, but nobody expected them to be this bad. Penns Valley has been a pleasant surprise (even with the fortuitous calls they get at home). Bald Eagle has been solid as usual, while P-O is really struggling.

YW UpNorth. I think this game should do a lot to shake up the so called rankings. D6 (especially in A) gets little respect from the sports writers who compile the rankings. Johnsonburg had such a great year last year and they are good again this year, and any schedule relationship teams have with them or Philly / Pitt schools translates favorably to strength of schedule and a favoritism of sorts in the rankings. D6A of which St Joes is in the middle of, is the toughest I have seen in years. Bishop Carroll and Bishop Guilfoyle are very very good teams. JV is likely to wind up as a 5 seed in D6A with a record somewhere north of 17 wins. I have been watching D6 hoops for the last 30 years +, and Bishop Carroll is the best team I've seen since in D6A since the state champion JV team in the mid 90's. In AA, PV could very likely wind up at around a 5 seed or lower as well, which is incredible considering they are also looking at entering the post season somewhere north of 17 or 18 win range as well. In addition schools such as BEA, Tyrone, Central, MU, West Branch, Bishop McCort, Richland, and a few others will make D6AA a wide open, but very tough tourney to win.

I'm hoping to see St Joe's entered in the D6 tourney, they deserve it. They would likely wind up at around an 8 seed, which might put them against those very talented BC or BG teams.

If memory serves, JV went to Hershey in back to back years; losing big the first time and winning big the second. I can't recall any other boys D6 A state champs. Heck the last D6 boys team to make to Hershey was Johnstown 8 or 9 years ago. Of course the girls are a totally different story.

The D6 A playoffs should be fantastic this year. You've already mentioned BC and BG, but I think Homer Center could beat either on any given night. I was really impressed that they took Richland down to the wire over the holiday tournament. I also like what Portage has done and look forward to see the Mustangs get another crack at CT, but this time at home. I'm not sure what to think about JV after getting blown out by BG, but that is a tough gym to play in.

It would be interesting how Saint Joseph's would do if they entered the playoffs, but it is their first year as a varsity program so who knows what they will do. I found it interesting that they were invited to the Cardinal Classic in December as the other teams were all perennial powers (Dubois Central Catholic, Johnsonburg & North Catholic). Talk about setting your sights high...
