I wasn't aware of the minor league options situation for Marte. If we can't demote hi then somebody better tell him to look over his shoulder to see who is coming to take away his playing time. Or better yet maybe he should be looking at the pitches he is swinging at in the dirt and take them. Lots of talent, not sure of the heart.

Yeah his up and down play is concerning. He should be about a .275 type hitter and he's hitting .240 right now. Last night the full arsenal was on display. Starling's raw talent is up there with anyone and the game last night showed that.

Now if you are penciling in a lineup on an average night against a righty, how would you do it given the current roster? Tonight will be a little different since it's a lefty, but generally what do you expect it to look like.

1. Harrison 2B
2. Martin C
3. Mccutchen CF
4. Davis 1B
5. Alvarez 3B
6. Polanco RF
7. Marte LF
8. Mercer SS

A lot of questions.
The few sure things for me McCutchen batting third, and Mercer batting 8th.
The way he's playing Marte should probably stay in the 7 hole.
Pedro has been batting 6th, and he's capable of abtting 4th or 5th. Same applies for Ike Davis.
Martin seems like he would be able to handle the 2 hole best on the team, but has hit well at the 5 spot also.
All depends how they want to handle Polanco. He could theoretically could bat 1,2,5,6,7 in this lineup.
I like Harrison as the leadoff for the next 3 weeks, because they have no other options. He could bat 2 if they trust GP at 1. leaving the heart of the order the same.

Why in God's name did they wait to bring him up? Not only that, it seems it's rubbing off on the other regulars as well. Things are looking better! Now if the pitching could hold up.
