In Youngstown, Ohio, WFMJ (NBC) airs the Overtime Sports Report. The 11 o'clock news only runs about 15 minutes, and the sports report runs about 20 minutes and they just push back the start of the Tonight Show. No issues.
That's 35 minutes.  The Tonight Show starts at 11:35.  This really isn't any different than what Johnstown area affiliates are doing, just with different amounts adding up to 35 minutes.  I thought people in the thread are talking about a full half hour AFTER the 11:00 news dedicated to scores and highlights.

WJAC or WTAJ or whoever you watch are catering to their audience.  Believe it or not, more people (even in the fall) care about the weather than a HS football game.  When you get down to it, these stations are a business, and they operate as such.  Cater to the needs and wants of their clients (viewers / advertisers)

You couldn't be more spot on Peyton... we high school fans are a tiny fraction of the overall viewership. I need to remind everyone this during WPIAL championship Saturday when people are made because of a game not being shown live because of the Penguins!!! Granted, I think ROOT and the Pens could work and maybe put a game on CW like they do for preseason (same way I feel they could do this when there is a Pirates/Penguins conflict) but still, you're out of your mind if you think a professional sports team is going to lose out to any sort of high school game.

You two fellas are right, of course, but THIS is a sports-oriented Forum, and when the media is brought up here, I'm going to lead the vanguard speaking out against certain practices and hope that one day it will improve.

That's fair.  Here's a question:  does anyone use cable access anymore?  (Or does that channel even exist, outside of council meetings and Sunday church services?)  I recall Vince Pavic doing a show on there at one time.  My brother used to do stuff at the then Cablevision studios and there is the capability for live broadcasts.  Perhaps something at 11:30 produced locally.  You could even bring kids/coaches into the studio like Maisel used to because a lot of LHAC teams are playing games nearby those studios.    Another option could be say WJAC using one of their digital channels (MeTV?) do produce a sort of extended cut of highlights and interviews to run after their 11:00 news cast?  WTAE uses their THIS TV to do a 7:00 newscast so there is some sort of precedence.  I don't know... just trying to think outside the box.

I agree on those points too. I for one don't have cable or an antenna. My choice is Directvwith the local package which includes PBS, WJAC, Fox WWCP, WTAJ, CW, and the WATJ ABC.
