History Lesson
At one time that was to have happened....The Replogle and Woodbury (aka: Above the gap) areas were to merge w/R.Spring and Martinsburg to form "Central Cove" and the Smith area (aka: Below the gap) was actually part of the Tussey Mountain School District for two years in the mid-50's prior to the county superintendent (they had one at that time) stepping in and disallowing it and forcing what is now N.Bedford together because he did not want Bed. Co. schools crossing into Blair County.
If that had not occurred you would see Central as a large AAA and Tussey Mountain as a AAA school today.
Interesting

I think it is a stupid hire since they had better canidates from what I have heard. I think they (Central) are scared to get outsiders and have a good program!! I am not from the area but seems like they are just happy to get anyone to fill this coaching position!

Well lets see here a stupid hire you say. HE has been an asst football coach the last 4 years, the kids know and respect him, he has been running the weight room program the last few years, he has a good football mind, he is a home grown boy from the cove, he is respected by parents and the admin, the kids really wanted him as there head coach, he brings stability to the program as he wont be going anywhere else and compared to the other candidates as some had good credentials he maybe had the most coaching experience also. YEs I would say a very bad choice by central with all these things considered. What was central thinking by hiring such a logical choice. I think Coach AJ will do just fine and was a very excellent choice.

I KNOW kids want to play for him....
I think it was a good hire. I believe Central will turn it around in the next few years. Getting a coach like Hoenstine was a step in the right direction.

Great Hire to beat Cambria Heights and maybe Richland and win their non-conference games vs NB and Tussey

They haven't been good at all for a few years. Last year they started to show signs of hope. This year...I'm guessing 4-5 or 5-4, as they begin the turnaround at Central.
