It's called WPIAL dominance, my friends. The BEST thing is that the W occurred in State's backyard. I guess it didn't matter that penn Hills got the 2 hr.+ bus ride, did it???
Penn Hills punked State College last night on the boards. McClain and Harvey probably had 25 rebounds between them. PG Knight dominated the game from the middle of the 2nd quarter on. Had PHills not missed 7FTs in the last quarter, they'd have won by double digits.
In the WPIAL tourney, PHills was seeded 7th and lost their quarterfinal game. They came out of the WPIAL as the 7-6 seed and rolled through the PIAA western bracket. Now, they're headed ti Hershey where they will play a very beatable Parkland team out of District 11.
If you attended the game last evening at AAHS, you'd have seen what I said all along: Penn Hills has some serious talent.
If teh PHills team that played the 2nd half last night shows up, they'll win Sat nite.
If the PHills team that I saw blow a 14 point lead with 3:00+ left and nearly lose the game against Shaler shows up, they'll lose to Parkland.
Onward, WPIAL Brothers! How Ya Like Us now?????

I was at the game last night and Penn Hills is talented but....they finished strong but darn near gave up the lead on a late State charge. The big boy underneath for PH is dominate and #3 had an enormous 2nd half(don't know names).. I don't knowed if you can say that State College got punked by PH though. They did handle them on the boards somewhat early but SC evened that out throughout the game.
PH is a little lucky that Wille Morris didn't catch fire earlier. He was getting wide open looks all night, just not hitting. SC also missed a couple key layups and got a horrible Offense foul called on them during a layup.
Was a great game to watch and even got to see a monster dunk by PH's big boy.

Freddy, I believe there was only one person in the entire place that thought that call was a charge and he had the whistle making the call.
Penn Hills was the better team last night, but what was SC doing at the end of the game? Why didn't SC call a timeout after the steal and score on the press cut the lead to one with about 30 seconds remaining?

yeah that was a horrible call. I think PH has the better athletes. I thought the big boy for SC would do more and I thought NOrwood(10) would do a little more but I still say if Morse was hitting, SC definitely wins.
I questioned the no - timeout also. Heck, we all did and 3 of our 4man group are either coaches or excoaches.

Freddy,
What was Johnny's thoughts on the no call??
I didn't make it to any girls games this year and wasn't sure whether the recent success at CR was do to better talent at CR, yourself, or what I figured was you had Johnny as the ball boy.

Johnny didn't make the trip. The improvement this season was by all means due to a good group of athletes.Boys and girls.
Also, we had Johnny H. as an assistant coach and John Black Jr. as the ball/towel boy.

WPIAL Titan,
You can hardly say Penn Hills ROLLED through the playoffs. With all the talent they have they should have rolled. The fact is, they should have lost to Connellsville. Especially if Cville didn't have a coach that was probably in special ed. Von Cap and I both agreed that Penn Hills' guards (exception for #20 who is tough) were not impressive. They do not pass well, and they don't utilize McClain nearly enough. They seem to try to go one on one more than they need to (esp. #3) and don't look inside to their star. From what I saw, they could be vulnerable when you force them to set up in a half court offense and frustrate their guards.
