lebron james is the rookie of the year in the nba
Fiction, Carmelo Anthony carried his team into the playoffs with only andre miller. Lebron couldnt get his team in the playoffs and he had Boozer and McCinnis to work with. For me by far Carmelo is the rookie of the year.

Fact....I would have to say that Lebron means more to his team than Melo does. Melo is playing with some former All-Stars on the other hand Lebron isnt playin with any one up to that caliber of player yet.

packerfan... you might be right that melo will get a ring before james but both of them are going to have to wait a while. the nuggets are a playoff team yes... but nowhere near a contender yet.
Slacker... Ricky Davis did nothing good for the Cavs... Ricky Davis is a bad basketball player... let him play in an all star game and he would put on a show... when he tries to play organized bball it's ugly... he is a terrible shooter and an even worse team player. everyone on the cavs accepted the fact that lebron was the go to guy.. except him. yeah boozer and the Z man are talented... but a team needs more then them to win games.
as austin said... this isn't about who is most valuable... it's about who the better player is... the most OUTSTANDING rookie...not most VALUABLE rookie... i'd bet a months pay lebron walks away with this award.

LeBron had a bunch of scrubs to play with. Ilgauskus was an all-star the year before but the guy is passive and not even a top 10 center in the league. Boozer is a guy who has no outside game and is limited at best inside. I bet most people couldn't name the rest of the contributors on the team. By the time they put the people around him he needed, it was too late, but 'Bron put up numbers of 25 pts., 6 assists, and 6 rebounds per game down the stretch. He took his team from the worst in the NBA to missing the playoffs by 2 games with no significant pickups. And don't give me Darius Miles as a good player because he's the most overrated player in the NBA. The guy can dunk, and.....well that's it. He can't shoot or play D, he just hits a dunk here and there then pumps his fists on his head, wow, I've seen HS kids do that. Dajuan Wagner has been a huge bust since being drafted. The kid scored 6 PPG.

Marcus Camby finally got back to the form he had early on with the Raptors averaging 10+ rebounds per game. Vashaun Lenard is another guy who stepped up big for them, and the acquisition of Michael Doleac has taken the burden off of a lot of guys.

I'd probably lean towards WINS to separate the two (especially playing in a much tougher western conference where it is tougher, better basketbal and still getting a bunch more W's). Really how else could you say Lebron is that much better? That stats don't lie. Averaged out they are nearly identical. James was the number one pick and maybe the most hyped guy ever to step onto an NBA court. He was on TV night after night after night whereas Melo wasn't. That hurts those of us who haven't seen nearly the amount of Denver games as Cleveland games. This is more of my .02...

Lebron's 21 ppg is more impressive in my mind because he is playing a position where it is much tougher to score. He was playing the point where he was asked to bring the ball down and his priorities were pass first shoot second. Melo on the other hand was playing the shooting guard for Denver and was asked to score in every game.
Also, teams could focus on stopping Lebron without worrying about others beating them. If a guy like Carlos Boozer went off for 35, you shake his hand, and accept the loss as long as you shut down LJ. Melo on the other hand, had guys around him at the guard positions that could score. Andre Miller again comes up as a proven player.
