Sideling Hill Meet

Looks like to me CR has the depth to win this thing again. Hey with 40-45 kids out that automatically gives you depth. A big question is when will another SHL team defeat Ridge boys in this meet as they will always be a tough team to beat.

40-50 kids doesn't automatically give you depth. yeah, maybe in some areas, but to be effective, they have to perform well. Ridge and Bedford might both have numbers, but they usually have good kids up and down that can place on any given day. Mcconnellsburg will always be Ridge's biggest threat at the Sideling Hill meet and will most likely give them a run for it every year.

The Sideling Hill meet went great, Ridge gals and guys took the big win. It was a great time. Ridge proudly took their trophy on a victory run at the end.

We may not have won, but I'm pretty satisfied with myself by bringin home a few pieces.

Ridge had us by 30 points, 15 of those we made idiotic mistakes...you'll have that i guess.

McCloskey was satisfied with taking second in pole vault by beating koenig and ryan young and trevor cleared 11'6" on his last attempt that beat him and McCloskey nearly missed.

In response to jumpers comment about numbers not mattering. Numbers are important in a meet like this and depth. Yes I agree Ridge girls and guys have great depth and have quality kids and the Ridge coaches have two outstanding programs in the guys and gals. But when you have 40 - 45 kids compared to the Tusseys and NBC's and MHs"s that get maybe 26 27 kids out then nUMBERS and DEPTH are a big advantage. If you have 40-45 kids compared to 25 26 kids takes a no brainer you have ability to have more quality kids from that group compared to a team with only 25 or so out. CONGRAtS to both guys and girls teams from Ridge and I see many more SHL track championships in Ridges future.

numbers are very important, unless ur have a circumstance similar to bedford...no this post isnt a toot my horn post, just pointing out facts....but if u look at the results from any invitational or meet bedford has competed in, u will c a rather small group of people compared to the number of atheletes on the team. but 9 times out of 10, numbers really do matter and the more you have the better ull be...just ask central cambrias boys that had to take TWO busses to every meet last year, needless to say they finished the season 13-0 and LHAC champs.

Very simply put, the smaller the meet, the more important depth becomes. In larger meets, quality becomes more important. Everett girls, despite lack of numbers, fared very well at district the last few years because of a few quality individuals. Ideally, it's best to have numbers and quality athletes.... a combination the Bedford boys team possesses this season.

Depth is very important, and often doesn't figure in as much in a double bual meet as it does in Sideling Hill, County, or District meets. Quad meets is another place where depth is handy. What I mean by this is, well, when we double dualed McConnellsburg, second and third place are worth 4 points combined, as opposed to five for first. Quality is better than quantity in such situations. But in the quad meet against Westmont, Everett, and Meyersdale earlier this year, our hurdlers took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the 110s. First place was worth five there, but second was four, third was 3, and fourth was 2. We gathered 9 points in that event, compared to Westmont's five (with Kring. We also failed to win the 300 hurdles at the Sideling Hill meet, but I know that all three of our guys placed in the top five. And if memory serves me well, I think we took second through fourth there as well. And that helps much when there are five or six places available, all with a significant amount of points. If somebody comes in and places two or three athletes in any event in districts, that is a major boost to that team, and could give that team a better shot at winning the meet. I see Everett's girls being district champions last year as more of the exception than the rule. The only way quality overcomes good depth is if an athlete can take first in every event he or she competes in. That's what happened last year to give Everett the championship.

the past 2 years at districts, bedford won a combined 11 of 18 medals (medals are only given to 1 2 and 3) in the throws with only 4 people...crissey, beegle, gadley, and houseworth....not much depth there but a TON of points!
