Mateo was blasting the ball in Nasvhille...11 jacks!

Ward hit a BOMB tonight to the top row in right field. That is now his third....

I think they said Mondesi breached his contract so they won't be paying him anything..

i like the 2 guys the buccos just brought up...mateo was a hot prospect in texas a couple years ago until a leg injury set that back and he is still fairly young to the best of my knowledge...and ward can mash the ball but in his years in the bigs has never gotten a chance to start everyday...id like to see these guys get considerable AB's and get a chance to prove themselves...

It appears the Buccos are finally being forced into the youth movement the fans have been waiting for. After a few somewhat successful years of bring in one year rent a vets from the scrap heap, this year's group from the over the hill gang is so bad they are forcing Mac & DL to finally play some of their young talent. I actually enjoy watching them play.

My wish list for the Pirates for the remainder of the season, tak'em or leav'em.

1. Never seeing Randall Simon in a Pirate uniform again; unless
it is in a sausage beating contest.
2. A healthy Kris Benson; so he can be traded for an everyday productive third baseman
3. A consistent Jose Mesa; see Kris Benson reason
4. An attitude adjustment for Tony Alvarez; he is the centerfielder/leadoff hitter of the future(sorry Tike fans) if he can screw his head on right.
5. A team willing to take Jason Kendall and his lofty salary; I like him as player but Pirates are going to need the money his contract eats up to pay some of these young pitchers they have coming up
6. An above .500 winning percentage; just for a change

It could happen!!

I agree with some of your points von cap however, if Benson throws well and they can sign him for a reasonable price, they should keep him. Mesa will be gone before the trade deadline. Simon should have never come back. Finally, I dont think Tike is the cf of the future, however, neither is alvarez.

i think the pirates should give up on benson. i used to really like him until last season when he took a page out of derek bell's book, operation shutdown. i hope he pitches well then next month or 2 and then send him away for some kind of talent.

also, rob mackowiak needs his chance as a starter. i think he could be a decent 3b w/ a if's about it.

Benson is kind of an intrigueing player. We all know he is going to have a good year this year because it's his last on his current contract. To some extent I agree with Palerider. If they can sign him for a reasonable price, they should try to keep him. The question of the issue is what is a reasonable price. What the Buccos think is reasonable and what some of the other major league teams think is reasonable and are worlds apart. I also think Benson will be looking for a long term contract and Pirates cannot afford to sign him to more than a two year deal.

Palerider, I am curious to hear why you think Alvarez isn't the centerfielder of the future. I realize he didn't make a good impression the first time around with his attitude, but the guy has skills. I watched him in Altoona for a few years, and IMO he was one of the most gifted players to wear a Curve uniform. He has excellent speed, an above average arm, has hit around .300 at every level and occassionally spanks a few long balls. I don't think he is superstar material, but I think. as with some of the guys on this year's team, if he gets a chance he can be a player.

yea i dont think benson is not that great he has had pleanty of time to prove himself and still he hasnt shown me anything

Von Cap when i look at Alvarez, truthfully i see chad hermanson, he has been in the minors forever. Alvarez has to be at least 28 and thats old for a player that is an average AAA player. JJ Davis will never play here either I think that our pitching at the minor leagues is awesome, but our position players are not up to par. When we unload Mesa, Benson, and probally Craig Wilson, because he would be a great DH in the American League.

how about tike redmond, he has been pretty cosistent lately along with bay and mackoviak in the outfield
