Enough is Definitely Enough

Ancient Enemy started this topic and he doesn't even give a crap about Bedford! Next theory?
Re: Enough is Definitely Enough
Its funny to see all the complaining because this unbelievable bedford team has ran out of luck.. I dont see what the fuss is about everyone getting screwed out of playoffs and such like westmont.. because no one cares about the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th place finishers.. no one shoots to lose in districts and regardless of your seeding you want to be the champion.. and to be the champion you have to win every game and beat the best teams... so the seedings dont matter when it comes down to it... to be the champion you beat the best.. Teams like Westmont, PL, CR.. are not the favorites are more and likely would not win the dist title... so qyite the complaing westmont had no shot to win the title.. learn to be a champion and win every game instead of arguing about matchups because they didnt work to the favor of a certain team

Nope, I have felt this way for a long time. I just think Pennsylvania has a very antiquated system. It has been around since the teens and may have worked when there was no playoff system in football but after 1988 that all changed. I am not a Bedford fan so that has nothing to do with it. I have seen other states and they seem to have a much simpler approach to the whole thing since they have had playoffs for so many more years. PA is really just getting started but has too much baggage to drag along from years past. Time to revamp the whole system. In Football. The other sports seem to work ok. Just like to see something a little more straight forward. Tradition seems to be getting in the way. Sometimes old habits are hard to break.

Moldo is pretty much right. As for only bringing this up because I'm upset Bedford lost, that's not the case. Sometimes it takes a horrible example to make you take a look at how bad the whole system is.

Re: Enough is Definitely Enough
All playoff systems are flawed. What might be a good playoff system this year, could look like a terrible system in 5 or 10 years if the balance of power shifts. Head Roadie is absolutely correct in saying the districts are here to stay. I believe they should at least be redrawn, but there no way the big districts will ever go for that. At very least I'd like to see D5 and D6 combined, but that's even doubtful.
The bottom line is that some teams will get good playoff draws and others will get tough ones. Upsets are part of the game....they are not a product of a bad playoff system.

A perfect completely fair system to the playoffs is really unattainable. As someone stated competition shifts, population movements, etc. will always be in play.
Maintaining the "status quo" because of a few short sighted ADs. That sounds familiar. Is it to much to ask that some creative forward thinking dynamic ADs could exist somewhere? A lot of money is invested into the PIAA each year. How about they start doing something to build a better system?

Well, you would have had to run into the team you lost to sooner or later (or another good team). When you get to the playoffs...every team will end its season with a loss except 1. It just depends when that loss comes.

Let me remind you that very few AD's are on District Committees....These are comprised primarily of principals from member schools. The AD's that are on the committee are most times "non-voting" members. So don't pawn PIAA problems off on AD's you are completely off-base there.
I think the AD's are the people that are creative and do have new ideas...They are happening all the time. There are those in the AD business that do just sit back and maintain their comfort zone in status quo, but they are the vast minority. most of the guys I work with are constantly coming up with ideas to make programs, leagues, etc. better for the kids and the fans.

I guess I've thought about it a little more and if the goal is winning a playoff game or two then I see your point. Obviously I don't think it would have been fair if NBC met Berlin in round one of D-5A this year.
