Yes, like you said this is a site for expressing your opinions.. not bashing players! Anyone can be tough behind a keyboard.. and I'm almost positive that speck isn't forcing any girl to play, if they hate it that bad I'm sure they have the option to quit, so therefore if they go to all the practices in the blizzards or so forth, or whatever you say they do, they must love the game, and Speck IS one of the best coaches in the state if you look at his yearly records. Which still makes me question of why southernchic has a problem with them practicing over holidays and such if she isn't even involved with the basketball team???

First of all let me say that SHC girls have had a very tough program for most of Speck's tenure as the head coach. He certainly turned that program around through several hours of dedication to those girls. He's had some talented athletes to build around in markey, creswell and zinoble, but it's the supporting cast of those teams that made them what they were. He made those girls better. How did he do that? He got the girls and their families to buy into his system and it's paid off, at least in wins. Now as far as the girls making the sacrifices they have made to build and maintain such a quality program, well, I think you would have to ask them if it was worth all the time invested. I have to agree with a few of the posts in that I believe your high school years are the best of your life and once they are over, they are over. Specializing isn't always the best answer for some, but on the flip side, basketball is what some of the girls live for. Some will regret their decisions and some will be satisfied. One thing is for sure though, they can't ever take those decisions back so you only hope they accomplished what they wanted to. Lastly, I think practicing on days when school is cancelled or early dismissal's is a bit extreme and unnecessary. The safety and well being of the athletes should be the main concern.
