what does this uconn loss come down to? they played quite poorly. uconn is a better team than nc st. instead of trying to develop a sizable lead in the second half, uconn seemed like they were just waiting to win at the end of the game. nc st. did a nice job of taking advantage of some open shots in the early second half and developed an 11 pt lead, which turned out to be just large enough. uconn was not running their half court offense as well as they had in late feb./early march. towards the end of the game, u saw what uconn can do when they run half court sets and execute them properly.

i had a bad feeling heading into this game.

as for that non-call at the end of the game, it was a charge. i do not expect uconn to get that call, but it was a charge. also, rudy gay has no business guarding hodge on that last play. whether intentional or not, nc st. was smart to recognize that match up at the end of the game and not call a time out so that calhoun could not get a better defender into the game.

BC has officially entered the realm of Confederate mudslinging.

This upcoming weekend is where my bracket is either going to be made or be broken. I have Kentucky, Louisville, Illinois, and Villanova in the Final Four. Louisville will be playing top seed Washington, and Villanova will be playing top seed North Carolina. These two matchups will make my bracket, or break it.

As far as the regular season conference standings being more important than the conference tourney, tell Kentucky and Boston College that. They may have won their conferences in the regular season, but they were hurt by not making a strong showing at the conference tournament. Meanwhile, West Virginia seriously improved their stock by making it to the Big East final, and Syracuse improved theirs somewhat by winning it. Even more, you can try and tell Oral Roberts that their regular season was more important than the MCC tourney. They went 26-5 in the regular season, but lost in the final to a team that went 9-18 in the regular season. That team, Oakland, made the tournament as a play in, while Oral Roberts was relegated to the NIT.

The selection committee makes a lot of decisions based on how the various conference tournaments go. The regular season might be important, and account for 60 or 70 percent of how they decide to seed a given team, but the conference tournament will determine the remaining 30 or 40 percent, which may be the difference between in and out of the big dance.
